Not a moment later, Jayden walks in with Adrian and my stomach drops. So much for him not coming to meals until the mob mentality stops.

“Shit” I mumble and glare down at my plate when I see them headed in our direction.

“You knew they were coming over here, Beth. That was part of the plan.” Raven picks up a slice of pizza and takes a big bite.

“I know,” I grumble and scoop some mashed potatoes and gravy onto my fork and take a huge bite.

“Hey, girls.” Adrian grins as he sets his plate down on the table across from us with a reluctant Jayden taking the seat beside him.

I wave, still chewing. That was entirely intentional so I don’t have to talk yet. I gaze out the window. The clouds are even darker than before. The rain doesn’t seem to be letting up anytime soon.

“Where’s the map?” Jayden barks, startling me, and I glare back at him.

“It’s fucking ancient. I have it in a safe place,” I growl back.

Raven glances out the window and sighs. “The rain is only getting worse.”

“So?” Jayden eyes her. “What does that have to do with anything? You won’t melt.”

“Yo, Jayden, why don’t you take the stick out of your ass while you are talking to me.” She rips off a huge chunk of pizza with her teeth.

“I had to use a ton of magic to get it to my dorm safely from the rain,” I mumble.

“That was you?” Adrian’s jaw drops to the floor.

I nod stiffly. “I couldn’t let the book get wet.”

Raven swallows loudly. “She was a total badass until she almost struck me with lightning.”

“I didn’t almost hit you. I knew exactly where I wanted that lightning to strike.” I giggle and toss a napkin at her.

“See the abuse I take from her,” Raven scoffs.

“You stick around for it.” I shake my head and go back to my food. Silence fills the table as everyone eats and I am thankful for it.

Thunder rumbles the windows as we finish eating and I sigh. “I guess we are going to do this in my dorm.”

“What?” Jayden barks. “Why?”

“I can’t let the map or the book get wet.” I cross my arms over my chest, glaring at him.

“So, do whatever you did before.” He shrugs like huge amounts of magic twice in one day are totally normal.

“Look, I know we have to have you on this damn mission, but you don’t have to be in the planning stages. If you don’t like it, don’t help us plan.” I scowl, pushing myself up from my seat, snatching my tray, and stomping away.

“Fine,” he yells at my back.

Is he agreeing to come or be left behind? Probably the former. Jayden never wants to be left out of anything. The pushy bastard.

Jayden stomps behind me, slamming his tray down after I clear mine. I ignore him. Raven jogs up next to me and we push through the doors.

The rain is worse, and the wind is howling. It reminds me of my own emotions right now. I’m surprised I don’t have steam coming out of my ears every second I have to deal with Jayden.

I pull my jacket up over my head and run across the quad, trying to keep myself as dry as possible, but it’s useless. I already look like a drowned rat.

Once inside, I turn to my friends who are all soaked too and grimace. “How about you all go change and meet me at my dorm in ten?”

Raven and Adrian agree with nods, but Jayden just stomps away.
