“We need to find the items of power for the gods. If we don’t, we could be looking at the end of humanity and everything on earth. No pressure,” I groan.
“I don’t think we told you, Rebecca.” Raven winces.
“Told me what?” she asks, her tone sharp.
I raise an eyebrow at Raven, wondering what she’s talking about. We didn’t find any other items of power when we went on our mission to save the school.
“Everything that was in ancient Greece has moved to places in the US. We think that’s why the gods’ items of power went missing.” Raven fidgets, tapping her foot.
“Explain,” she grunts.
“We found that fountain that is supposed to be at the temple of Delphi in Arizona,” I say thoughtfully.
“And the wilds.” Jayden’s eyes widen. “What if we can map everything out the way it would have been in ancient times and use the places we know as markers to where things would be in the US. It will help us find them quicker.”
Adrian shifts on the couch. “What about the current problem, though?”
“We need to find the items of power to help the gods.” I frown at him in confusion.
“I know that, but what about the darkness?” He shakes his head.
“It’s all connected,” Jayden cuts in. “We need one thing to stop the other. The darkness you saw could be far in the future or it could be tomorrow.”
“It felt urgent,” Adrian whispers.
I raise a hand to hush them. “Until we get a clear reason behind the darkness, I think this is a good plan. We need to find Cross and ask for a map or some books on ancient Greek geography.”
Adrian is not convinced but nods slowly. “Fine.”
Rebecca stands and folds her hands in front of her primly. “Time is of the essence; however, I do want to be informed of what you find and you will tell me before you leave.”
We all nod in agreement and at her clear dismissal get up to leave. I follow everyone out the door. Jayden is halfway down the hall before we are all gathered.
“Find me when you have the maps. I actually have classes that I care about.” He throws the barb over his shoulder with a scowl.
“Ass,” Raven mutters under her breath.
“Let him go,” I groan. He isn’t worth worrying about. “We need to find Cross.”
I glance up at the old clock on the wall, noting the time. Adrian shuffles his feet. “Let’s check his office. I think he has a free period right now.”
Without waiting for a response from us, he strides down the empty hall toward the teachers’ offices. With a shrug, Raven and I follow him.
When we get to the office, Draven is there with his hand poised to knock on the door. “What are you guys doing here?”
“We need to ask Cross for something. What are you doing here?” I ask with a raised brow.
“I can’t get a hold of my dad. It’s like I’m blocked.” He shakes his head.
Fuck. If he can’t get a hold of Hermes, do we have a hope of helping Cross with his problem?
“Your dad is the messenger of the gods. There should be a way to contact him, I’m sure.” Adrian frowns.
All of this is connected. It has to be. Why else would the messenger of the gods be unreachable? The gods really are weakening.
“You would think he would always be reachable, but I have been trying and it’s just like static.” Draven shakes his head.
Raven glances at me. “Well, fuck.”
