We wander to the cafeteria and get in line. Jayden isn’t at his table yet. It is still early though so I’m not concerned. The only thing I’m worried about is him trying to leave before we get a chance to talk to him.
Will he even show with Draven’s accusations and Dax’s pettiness lately? I sigh. I wish boys would stop being so stupid. It would make things so much easier.

Jayden doesn’t show. We wait a long time after dinner is over, but he still doesn’t show up so we decide to catch him during training. Adrian pats my shoulder reassuringly.
“It’s okay, we have a bit of time before we need to go. We will catch up to him tomorrow.” He stands up from his chair.
At least dinner was quiet, and we weren’t bothered by the idiots. Maybe they are all off licking their wounds somewhere.
The headmistress walks in and scans the room before striding toward us as we are emptying our trays. Raven elbows me and widens her eyes.
“Uh-oh, are we in trouble,” she whispers.
“She doesn’t look pissed but she never gives anything away.” I set my tray on the stack of dirty ones and turn to face her.
“There’s my favorite troublemakers.” Her expression is stern but her eyes glimmer with mirth.
“Hello, Rebecca.” I nod respectfully to her and Raven does the same.
“You know that area is off-limits.” She crosses her arms over her chest.
“Have you seen Cross lately?” I ask carefully.
“I just saw him as a matter of fact.” She raises a brow at me.
“Then you know why we did it.” I fidget with my hands in front of me.
Should I pull the ‘saved the school card’ to get out of this or let it play out?
“I do and I think your solution has merit, especially if the magic is familiar. Whoever did this could be who orchestrated the students’ abductions,” she surprises me by saying.
I didn’t think of that. Could we know who was behind it or just encountered their magic before?
“Okay, do you want us to talk to Draven?” I ask because if we aren’t in trouble, then why did she seek us out?
“That would be helpful. I am issuing you both a warning and that’s only because you are so important. Do not go into restricted areas again without my permission.” She puts her hands on her hips in an attempt to look stern to whoever may be watching, but a small smirk is on her lips.
Got it. This is all for show, so it doesn’t look like we are getting special treatment. I nod my head. Message received.
Raven shuffles her feet. “We will go find Draven, then.” She grabs my arm and quickly pulls me away with her.
I scan the cafeteria, searching the Hermes table for the tall blond man but come up empty. “He’s not here. Should we check the dorms?”
Raven shrugs. “Let’s check the quad first.”
We walk out the large double doors and scan the grassy area. The sky has gone dark and clouds cover the starry sky. Torches light up the area and someone has started a fire in the firepit in the center of the quad. Several groups of students sit close to the fire to keep warm in the chilly night.
“Do you see him?” I ask Raven.
“He’s holding court over there,” Raven says, pointing across the firepit.
“How much you want to bet he’s spitting bullshit again?” I ask, shaking my head in frustration.
We walk around the pit so we are positioned behind him when we walk up.
“I’m telling you she will go for me. There’s no way Zeus will let her be with a son of Hades,” Draven scoffs.
