“Sorry, but I think we found something.” I pat Skullrider’s back and he snorts smoke.

“What did you find?” Jayden asks.

“There’s a cavern on the other side of the pit that looks like it has magic guarding it. I think it’s our best option.”

Typhon bellows as we fly over the chasm. He swats at us, but Skullrider is too fast for the clumsy god and we dodge easily.

Typhon falls on the ground with a massive crack, still disoriented and confused from half his heads being tangled.

“No,” Hecate bellows and magic shoots toward us, but Jayden puts up a shield made of shadows just in time.

She’s out of allies and still in a battle with Hermes. He is throwing constant barrages of magic at her so she can’t throw more than the occasional spell at us.

Jayden’s shield blocks them for now, but how long will that last?

“It’s taking too long,” I mumble. “If we don’t get across soon, then Typhon could figure out how to untangle his heads.”

“He’s going as fast as he can. We have to hope that we can get there before Typhon figures it out.” Jayden’s arms tighten around me as Skullrider drops in altitude.

The horse lands swiftly and we get down. I scan the area but see no sign of Hecate’s forces.

Thank the fates for small mercies.

“Should we check it out?” I ask, staring up at Jayden.

“I don’t think we should,” Jayden says with a head shake. “It feels like my father’s magic.”

“You think it will hurt me if I go in there?” I ask.

“I think it’s much like the magic that kept the Hermes kids trapped in the cave. Only it’s Hades magic this time and we will not be going in together.” Jayden grimaces.

“I’m willing to risk it,” I growl.

“Yeah, well, I’m not. You think I was lying when I said I was willing to risk it at the cave?” He runs a hand through his hair.

“No, I wasn’t willing to risk you getting electrocuted.” I stomp my foot angrily.

“So, you’re the only one who gets to risk yourself without input? I’m just supposed to let you do that when you refused my assistance.”

“That’s not what I’m saying at all. I’m saying, look at everything we just faced. Do you really think that is the end of it? Do you really think she won’t have another nasty surprise waiting for us?” I ask and fold my arms over my chest.

“I can handle whatever is in there. It’s my choice this time not to let you risk yourself the same way you refused me.” Jayden thrusts his hands on his hips.

“Fine, but if there are any problems, then I’m coming in whether you think it’s safe or not.” I glare at the idiot.

He needs me, so why is he being so hardheaded?

“No, Beth, that’s death magic. It will obliterate you. Promise me you won’t come after me,” Jayden begs.

Death magic? I didn’t even know Jayden had death magic. What would that do to me? What will it do to him?

“Jayden, how do you know it won’t kill you?” I ask with a frown.

I step closer, but Jayden shakes his head and steps away.

“It’s the same magic I have. It’s the same as my father’s. It won’t hurt me, I promise.” Jayden cups my cheek and steps in close.

“Jayden, I don’t think this is a good idea.” I frown and wrap my arms around him.
