“Luck? Is that what we are relying on now?” I ask, running a hand down my face.

My whip flicks out and snaps a nearby demon and it hisses, turning beady red eyes on me.

“Fuck, Beth,” Jayden says, exasperated. “We wanted at least some element of surprise.”

The demon shrieks, getting the attention of the rest of them. All eyes are once again on us.

Well, shit. Oops.

I light my whip with electricity as the demons around us roar and lunge forward.

The ground cracks under the weight of the massive monster and a dozen heads pop up from the hole.

Why the fuck do so many things in Greek history have multiple heads? That is fucking crazy.

His heads are all fierce animals and a howl breaks through the clashing of steel and shrieks of agony.

There are too many demons. Hecate is standing back, watching the battle with a smugness I don’t like.

What the hell does she have up her sleeve now?

I slash out with my whip and fry one of the demons until it turns to ash, but it regenerates almost instantly.

Motherfucker. We can’t kill them without the fucking helm.

“We need a distraction,” I yell at Jayden. “They just keep coming back.”

“What about Claud?” Jayden asks, glancing up at the huge cyclops.

“What about him?” I say and flick my whip at another demon that is getting too close for comfort.

“Claud, can you fight?” Jayden asks the cyclops.

He has his hand over his one eye hiding so he doesn’t have to look. He’s so childlike, I hate to think that Jayden is asking him to fight, but he may be our only hope.

“No fight,” he whimpers.

“We need your help, Claud. If we are going to win this, we are going to need you to do something.” Jayden slashes out at a demon with his obsidian blade.

“Help friends.” Claud nods his head.

“You can do this. Just like walk on them or swat them away,” I shout my encouragement.

Claud shoots me a toothy grin before stepping on a group of demons around him.

His step shakes the ground and another crack splits open between me and Jayden.

Is Typhon doing that? Does he have the ability to control where the cracks pop up?

Gods, I hope not.

The cracks separate me and my friends, cutting us off so we can’t stand back-to-back anymore.

“Beth,” Raven screams. “Behind you.”

I whirl around and swing my whip in a wide arc, electrocuting five demons along the way. They crumble to ash but like all the others quickly regenerate.

More heads pop up from the pit and I groan. He’s getting fucking closer to dragging his ass out of there. How many millennia has he been trapped that it’s taking so long?
