What fucking creature has lots of hands? This is crazy.
Jayden’s eyes widen and he shakes his head. “We can’t let them out. We can’t find them a place in the human world.”
Raven tilts her head to the side. “What are you talking about?”
“The Greek name is too hard to pronounce but it means hundred-handed ones. There are three of them and I know it sucks they are there, but even if we could find somewhere to put them, Campe will never let them out.” Jayden shakes his head.
“Campe,” Claud shrieks and cowers away from us. “No Campe, please.”
He covers his huge face with his hand and starts crying.
“Shit,” I say. “No, Claud, we aren’t going to let Campe get you.”
“No Campe?” Claud asks hopefully.
“No, no Campe. She won’t get you again,” I promise.
Jayden makes a sound of frustration in the back of his throat but thankfully doesn’t comment.
Adrian steps forward. “Claud, we can help you and we will try to help your friends, but we need help too. Have you seen the Helm of Hades?”
“No Hades,” Claud yells.
“Not Hades, just his item of power,” Adrian says.
“No Hades?” Claud asks.
“No, no Hades.” I step forward.
It’s like talking to a scared child. Poor guy doesn’t even know who his true enemies are.
Hades is not his enemy. He didn’t let them out, but he’s not the one who imprisoned them and left Campe to torture them.
“We have to take him with us,” I say to Jayden under my breath.
“That’s up to my father, Beth.” He shakes his head and sighs.
“No Hades,” Claud screams and beats his fists against the ground.
I stumble into Jayden, glaring at him as his hand lands on my hip.
“No Hades, Claud. We told you that. We won’t let anyone hurt you,” I say, holding up my hands.
Raven chews her lip. “We should all rest. We can figure out what to do tomorrow.”
“I think that’s a good idea,” I say. “I’ll keep first watch.”
“You always keep first watch, Beth. When is the last time you actually slept?” Raven asks.
“I’m fine,” I say with determination.
I’m the strongest of all of us. I can handle being a bit sleep-deprived.
“I’ll keep watch too,” Jayden says, stepping forward.
“Oh, that’s a great idea.” Raven chuckles under her breath.
“Shut it, Raven,” I growl.
