I spin around in a circle, but they are nowhere in sight. “They were just here, where did they go?”

“We need to find them before they do something that can’t be reversed.” Jayden scrubs a hand over his face.

The ground is soft and squishy here and I glare down at it. Maybe they left some kind of tracks.

“You were supposed to keep your eyes on them,” Jayden says.

Oh, hell no. He is not blaming this all on me.

“In case you’ve forgotten, Jayden, I’m not exactly in the right frame of mind either.” I stomp forward.

Stupid, arrogant ass. Blaming this all on me when he’s the only one who’s not starving.

The underworld won’t keep him here if he eats the food like it will the rest of us.

“Okay, I’m sorry, there are some tracks here. Maybe if we follow them, we will find the others.” Jayden holds his hand out to me.

I take his hand and we pick through the grove, following the tracks.

A giggle meets my ears and my head snaps to Jayden. “That’s Raven.”

We race through the forest to the sound of Raven’s hysterical giggles.

What the fuck are they doing running around in the orchard?

We run around to a clearing and find them twirling and dancing as they pick fruit from the trees.

Raven spins in my direction and giggles. “Beth, look. We found so much food we don’t have to starve anymore.”

She holds out a shiny red pomegranate that is so tempting I reach for it.

Just one little taste can’t do too much harm, right? It looks so good and I’m so hungry.

Jayden swats the fruit out of her hand and glares at her. “Do I need to wrap the three of you up in my shadows until we get out of this damn orchard?”

I shake my head to clear the fog from my brain. Shit, I was about to eat that damn pomegranate. What was I thinking?

Adrian is about fifty feet away when he grabs the knife on his belt and stabs it into the fruit in his hand.

“Adrian, no,” I scream as he brings the fruit to his mouth.

Shit, we are not going to stop him in time. Adrian is going to be stuck in the underworld forever.

Jayden’s shadows snake out quicker than I can blink and bat the fruit out of Adrian’s hands.

“What the fuck?” Adrian says angrily and stares Jayden down.

“You can’t eat that, Adrian. We have to get out of here,” I say and shake my head.

I didn’t think we’d be able to stop Adrian in time. I momentarily forgot that we had magic. Mine feels so drained that I don’t even know it’s there.

What would have happened to him if he got stuck in the underworld?

“I can eat it. I’m starving,” Adrian groans and reaches for another piece of fruit.

Jayden’s shadows wrap around Adrian and pull him to us.
