When the desk stops moving, I jump up from my seat, finally able to get out and race to Raven who is shaking her head at him.
“What is wrong with him? I think Draven made it worse,” I grumble.
“Oh, Draven most definitely made it worse. If there is anything that Dax thinks is sexy, it’s a badass. Sorry, B.” Raven sighs.
“This is ridiculous. I don’t have time to worry about a bunch of stupid boys,” I huff, adjusting the bag on my shoulder.
“What do you think is going on with Cross,” she asks, changing the subject thankfully.
“I hope it’s just like the other students and he’s weakening. I think that might be something we can handle.” I pull my strap back up on my shoulder as we wade through the sea of bodies to Cross’ office.
He tried to escape us, but I can’t let that happen. If there is a way to help him, then we need to talk to him.
“He’s probably not even there if he’s ducking us, Beth.” Raven bumps me with her shoulder.
“Something isn’t right, though. You saw how he looked.” I stride confidently through the crowd. Most students part, getting out of our way.
Whispers follow us everywhere since the battle at the wards. It’s not surprising since we saved the school and brought back the Hermes kids who fixed the wards, but after Draven’s outburst in class, I’m paranoid.
“Is it just me or are some of those stares not exactly friendly?” I ask Raven as I scan the hall.
“What the hell?” she whispers. “Definitely not just you. What is going on?”
“I don’t know. Do you think someone heard our conversation with Draven?” I peer at her with wide eyes as we get to the hall where the instructors’ offices are.
The hall is much quieter than the main hall and there are less glares coming our way.
“Fuck, they think we are somehow stealing their abilities? I can’t do much more than fight and have brute strength. I can’t just take the ability of a seer. That’s fucking stupid,” Raven barks out.
She’s not wrong and I haven’t gotten any new abilities that I know of. I’m just able to direct and control them better. I’m going to kick Draven’s ass for even suggesting that.
“I hope Draven knows what he’s doing because dividing the school like this is a bad fucking idea,” I grumble as we step in front of Cross’ office door.
“I don’t think he’s here,” Raven says. “He usually leaves his door open when he is here.”
“If he’s ducking us, he would close the door.” I step forward to knock.
“Why in Hades would he be ducking us though?” Raven frowns.
It doesn’t make any sense to me either. What is he hiding?
I knock on the door and wait for a response that never comes. I sigh and knock a second time but still I get nothing.
“Fine, hide from us then,” I yell through the door like a petulant child.
“C’mon, we are going to be late for training.” Raven threads her arm through mine and pulls me away from the door harder than necessary and I stumble.
“You need to chill,” I grunt.
“Sorry, I don’t know my strength anymore.” She sighs.
I push through the doors at the end of the hall and into the cold chill of the quad. Shouting reaches my ears and I turn to the tree line on the other side of the quad.
A crowd has formed over there. I raise an eyebrow at Raven who shrugs, but we both race to the group gathered.
A Hermes kid that we saved from the cave runs over to us in a panic.
“What’s wrong?” I ask him.
