“We need to figure a way out of this,” I whisper to Raven.
“I don’t know how. We are in a literal wall of fire,” she hisses back.
“What are you doing for Lord Hades?” Meg demands.
I glance at Jayden warily and he shakes his head. Hades doesn’t know who to trust in his own realm and even though the furies are seemingly loyal to him, I don’t think it’s the greatest idea to tell them anything.
“If he wanted you to know, he would have told you, right?” I ask.
Alecto shrieks again and I cover my ears and duck my face into Jayden’s chest.
“That probably isn’t the tactic I would have used, Beth.” Jayden shakes his head.
“They aren’t listening to anything else we say so why wouldn’t I?” I grumble.
Adrian steps forward with a frown. “It’s not them, but they may be able to help.”
“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” I ask and turn to Jayden.
“it’s the best option we have,” Adrian says.
“If he saw something, then that’s probably the only way out of this. Just tell them and be vague,” Jayden says.
“Hades asked us to retrieve something for him. We saw the prophetess and she told us riddles about Phlegethon. We are headed there,” I say loudly over Alecto’s screeching.
“What?” Meg asks in horror. “What has he lost that he would send the daughter of his enemy?”
“I am not his enemy or yours,” I shout, throwing my hands up in frustration.
Adrian puts a hand up, telling me to stop. “Haven’t you noticed the underworld is in chaos?”
“What do you mean?” Alecto asks in confusion.
“There are demons in Elysium,” I say with a shake of my head.
The flames around us die down a little but their heat doesn’t subside. Jayden lowers the shield slightly.
“Elysium?” Meg asks in horror.
“You lie,” Alecto shouts.
The final fury just stares at us with curiosity.
“We have killed several in Elysium. They have also escaped into the human world,” I say.
“What does this have to do with you?” Meg asks.
“We are here to save the underworld and the human world alike.” I cross my arms over my chest.
The furies all glance between each other.
“We need to go to check out Elysium and remove any demons.” Meg says and the others nod their agreement.
They really are some of Hades most loyal supporters. Hopefully they can get the demons out of Elysium.
“You are on the right track, demigods, but beware, the river of fire leads to the pits of Tartarus,” Alecto warns before flying off.
“Well then,” I say as the fire around us fizzles out.
