“It’s going to take a couple days at least.” He runs a hand over his close-cropped hair.

Shit. Are we going to make it in time to stop them?

I shift from foot to foot, anxious to get started on our journey.

This may be even tougher than the last mission.

Adrian stands and bows his head to the oracle reverently. “Thank you for your help.”

“Kiss ass,” I mumble.

The oracle shoots me a glare.

What the fuck does the woman expect? She has been openly hostile to everyone but Adrian.

“How the hell did she even hear me?” I grumble as we walk back out of the cottage.

Raven giggles. “She’s an oracle. She probably saw you say it before the words even came out of your mouth.”

“Yeah, she can do that, but she can’t tell us what we need to know.” I roll my eyes.

Adrian shakes his head. “The magic around the helm must be extremely powerful if even Delphi can’t see it.”

Jayden storms ahead. “C’mon, we need to move as quickly as possible. We need to get out of here and into the Asphodel meadows as soon as possible.”

“How long will that take?” I ask nervously.

It took half a day to get to the edge of Elysium. How long will it take to get to the meadows?

“It is going to be awhile, but we need to get out of here. We can’t sleep in Elysium.” Jayden waves a hand over his shoulder at us.

I trudge along and catch up with Jayden, then walk beside him. “I don’t have to worry about wanting to stay here.”

“Everyone has to worry about that,” Jayden grumbles.

“There are so many things I don’t like about this place.” I cross my arms.

“I would rather be safe than sorry when it comes to all of you getting stuck here.” Jayden glances at me meaningfully.

“I know. I don’t want to stay here any longer than I have to, either.” I shudder.

We weave our way through the small city and out to the path again. Jayden turns away from the path we took to get here.

I adjust the pack on my back and keep pace with Jayden as he leads the way toward the trees. A light breeze ruffles my hair and I shiver.

I don’t like this place, but what am I going to think when we get to Asphodel? It’s the place the souls go who were just indifferent.

What does Hades do with the indifferent? I’m sure they don’t get anything near what they do in Elysium.

Is it similar to purgatory? I think that would be far worse than Elysium. I’m not in any hurry to be stuck in either place at the moment though.

The forest is still much like everywhere else in the underworld. Raven walks up beside me, scanning the forest.

“This place is eerie.” She rubs her hands over her arms.

“It is. I will be glad when we can go back to the land of the living,” I agree.

“Me too,” she says.
