“It sucks out part of your soul when you get close.”

Jayden’s chains shoot out at the demon. They are coated in his hellfire, but the demon dodges them easily.

I crack my whip out again and the demon screams in pain as my electricity shocks him.

I need to get to Raven. She needs the elixir, but with the demon focused on me, it will just put her in more danger.

I pull the bag from my shoulder and glance over at Adrian. He’s still trying to find an opening for his arrows.

“Adrian, catch,” I shout and throw my bag to him.

He catches it with one hand and frowns at me. I nod my head toward Raven and he nods.

“Cover me,” Adrian says and sprints to the trees.

The demon catches the movement and flings magic at him, and I flick my whip at the burst of black magic.

To my complete shock, it works and the magic lights up with electricity before fizzling out.

“That’s convenient.” I chuckle.

The demon screams and rushes me with poison-tipped claws outstretched.

Jayden roars and before the demon can even get close, his hellfire shoots from his hands. It wraps around the demon, squeezing it tight.

The demon screams as the fire engulfs his entire body and slowly turns him to ash.

Jayden’s magic just gave that thing a slow, painful death. That’s new. How are we finding out so many new things about our magic now?

I rush over to Raven and drop to my knees next to her.

“Were you able to give it to her?” I ask Adrian.

“I did but there hasn’t been a change yet.” Adrian turns worried eyes on me.

No, we can’t lose Raven. We can’t. She’s my best friend; what the hell will I do without her?

Jayden wraps an arm around my shoulders as he crouches next to me.

“She will be okay. He gave her the elixir from the healer. Maybe it’s just taking longer because of the magic,” Jayden says softly.

“It won’t,” Heracles says, stepping toward us. “You will have to pull the magic from her, son of Hades.”

“What?” Jayden asks, turning to him.

“Underworld magic is poisonous to the living and can’t be cured by living treatments.” Heracles scrubs a hand over his face.

“I don’t accept that. I was poisoned by a demon, and it worked on me,” I say and stand to face my ancient half brother.

Theseus steps up next to Heracles. “I’m guessing since you seemed shocked that the demon could use magic that you were scratched by claws.”

“Yeah,” I shrugged.

“It’s not technically underworld magic so it isn’t the same,” Theseus says.

Jayden drops to his knees. “How do I pull the magic out of her?”

His worried frown scares me. I can’t lose Raven.
