Magic flares around us and Hypnos appears next to Hades’ throne.

“Every guard within the castle is momentarily asleep, Lord Hades.” Hypnos nods, his eyes twinkling happily. “Good to see you again, Bethany.”

“You too, Hypnos, but why is everyone asleep?” I ask.

“It’s a precaution.” Hades waves my question away.

Raven steps to my side and tilts her head.

“You don’t trust your own people,” Raven says softly.

It’s not a question. Hades doesn’t trust his own guards, but why?

“Very perceptive, daughter of Ares.” Hades nods and taps his fingers against the skull at the end of his armrest.

It’s fucking disturbing. He keeps tapping away at the eye socket. I’m almost transfixed until Raven elbows me.

“I don’t trust anyone. Someone in my own realm has betrayed me.” Hades grips that same skull so hard his knuckles turn white.

I’m surprised it doesn’t crush to dust under his grip.

“What makes you think that, Father?” Jayden asks with a frown.

“The helm has not left the underworld. I would know if someone took it to the human realm. One of my people stole from me,” Hades growls.

“You would be able to feel if it left the realm, but you can’t feel it’s location in the underworld?” I ask, frowning.

“It’s being shielded somehow.” Hades grunts.

I turn, raising a brow at Jayden. That sounds really familiar. Could this be the same person who trapped the Hermes kids?

“So, how are we supposed to find it?” Raven asks.

“There’s a prophetess that used to work with the gods in Elysium. She will be the only one with strong enough seer abilities who might be able to find it.” Hades raises a brow at Adrian.

“Hey, I don’t think too highly of myself. I know there are stronger seers than me.” He holds his hands up in surrender.

“Father, are you sure there is no other way?” Jayden steps forward.

Elysium is supposed to be paradise so why is Jayden so worried about us going there?

“She is the only one who will know.” Hades glares at Jayden and he nods.

What the fuck is going on?

“Elysium can be dangerous to the living. You can get sucked in and never want to leave,” Jayden says with a sigh.

Well, shit. I thought the demons were bad but even paradise can be hazardous to our health.

“You should rest for the night, and I will give you passage to Elysium in the morning,” Hades says, standing from his creepy throne.

“There’s no time. We need to get to the prophetess as soon as possible. We don’t know how long it will take to get the helm,” I say, shaking my head.

The others agree instantly and Hades sighs. “Persephone will be unhappy.”

“It’s less than a week before the Titans will be able to get free, Father. We need every second we have.” Jayden throws up his hands in frustration.
