I get ready for bed quickly, exhausted from the insane day I have had. It looks like it’s only going to get worse from here so I need all the rest I can get.

I pull back the comforter and lie down in the bed, my eyes closing almost the minute I lay my head down on the pillow.

“Beth…” a disembodied voice calls from the blackness.

“Daughter of Zeus. Help us.” I turn in all directions but there’s nothing but shadows and darkness.

What the fuck is this? I hold my hands in front of me and I can see them, but nothingness surrounds me.

“Who’s there?” I call out but there is no response.

Does this have something to do with Adrian’s vision or is someone trying to contact me through my dreams?

“Help us…” I spin around to the voice, but it sounds like it’s everywhere and nowhere.

“Who are you? I can’t help you if I don’t know who you are.” Am I really trying to use logic in a dream?

Concentrating on my power, I try to pool a ball of lightning in my hand but it fizzles out before it grows big enough for me to see anything.

“Fuck,” I scream into the void.

I need to fucking wake up. I can find out who needs my help while I’m awake. This is crazy.

“God of…” the voice trails off as I turn again, trying to locate it. Okay, a god is asking for my help or I am going crazy.

“What are you the god of?” I ask the void even though I know I will not get an answer.

I sit bolt upright in the bed with my hand on my chest, breathing heavily. I’m not claustrophobic but being in the middle of an endless void is terrifying.

Looking at the alarm, I see it’s time to get up if I want to be in time to get breakfast. Hurrying through my shower and morning routine, I rush out the door and down to the fifth floor where a bleary-eyed Raven waits for me.

“Morning.” She yawns.

“You look like you got about as restful sleep as I did.” I shake my head and stomp down the stairs.

“Weird dreams,” she groans.

“What kind of weird dreams?” I stop walking and she nearly barrels into me, almost shoving me down the stairs.

“Shit, sorry, B.” She grabs my arm to keep me from stumbling.

“Were you in a void?” I ask with a raised eyebrow. Raven frowns.

“No, I wasn’t in a void. Why would you ask that?” Raven steps next to me.

“I had a super weird dream where someone was asking for my help but I couldn’t see anything but a black void.” I shrug and keep walking.

“Did they say who they were?” she asks.

“I think they were having trouble communicating with me or it was just a weird-ass dream.” I push through the door to the quad and stride along with the flow of students heading to the cafeteria.

“Dreams are often more real than they appear,” Raven mumbles.

“You’re saying that could have been real? That it’s the way a god was communicating that they need my help?” I shake my head.

“They said they were a god?” she asks as she swings open the double doors dramatically.

“Yeah, just not which one,” I grumble as we both grab trays and scan the cafeteria for Jayden.
