“I’m so sick of guys,” I mumble into my textbook. “You are the lucky one. You have Greyson.”

Her shifter boyfriend is a little strange and nearly got us into some shit when we were at a zoo on our mission to save the Hermes students that had been abducted.

“Just do you, boo. They will get the picture eventually.” Raven chuckles.

“I hope they do sooner rather than later because dodging Dax is taking all my extra energy.” I peer up at her from my book.

“Okay, my eyes are crossing and I feel like my stomach is eating itself. Let’s go get some snacks before I get hangry.” She jumps up from the bed.

“You’re a bottomless pit. We just had lunch a couple hours ago.” I push my assignment inside my book and close it with a snap.

“Yes, it was hours ago and I’m hungry,” she whines dramatically.

I scoot off the bed, shaking my head in exasperation but slip my shoes on all the same. I could use some time outside of this damn room. Ancient history is a class that we need to survive but not something I want to study for hours on end either.

“Fine, let’s go.” I grab my light fur-lined jacket from the hook by the door. It’s getting colder out but not unbearable since we are in California, after all.

We quickly make our way to the first floor and out the doors to a light dusting of snow. It doesn’t snow often at this altitude but I’m glad I brought my jacket.

We stroll through the quad, waving to people as we go. Adrian, the Apollo seer we met before the mission to save the Hermes students, jogs over as he sees us.

“Hey, Beth. Hey, Raven.” He greets us with a smile.

“What’s going on, Adrian?” I ask.

The seer very seldom speaks to anyone or initiates conversations unless there is a problem with a vision.

I asked him about it once and he said the more he gets to know people, the harder it is to block visions of their lives. That sounds like a sad, lonely existence to me. Poor guy.

“Um, well, it’s Jayden and Dax. They may be squaring off in the training yard… again.” He rubs a hand over his neck.

“Why do you think I would care?” I ask with a shrug, but my feet start moving in that direction anyway. This stupid male posturing needs to stop.

“Even if they are both being idiots, they are still your friends, right?” He frowns as he moves right along with us.

“That is debatable,” I huff.

These two are going to give me an ulcer at twenty-one. I am so fucking serious. I peer over at Raven who is brimming with excitement over a possible fight.

“We going to watch a dick measuring contest?” She raises an eyebrow at me, clapping her hands together excitedly.

“You are definitely a child of Ares.” I shove her playfully in her shoulder.

“What can I say, the god of war loves war.” She grins.

“Just don’t egg them on like you did the last time.” I roll my eyes.

Last time we interrupted a fight between the two hotheads, Raven was calling out pointers and a very angry dryad gave them a piece of her mind when Jayden almost destroyed her tree with his hellfire.

“That dryad was so pissed,” she sings out gleefully. “Serves them right for being idiots.”

As we pass through the forest to the clearing, a crowd has formed a circle around something, or in this case two someones. This has become an almost daily occurrence with them since Dax kissed me and it’s driving me insane.

The crowd parts for us. None of the other students will meet my eyes, and a few groan because they know since I am here their entertainment for the day is about to end.

Jayden stands like a god of chaos with black flames covering his normal shadow chains. He has somehow gotten a power boost since we saved the Hermes students and the academy and with it came hellfire.

Dax’s battle-ax comes out of his hand as the chains wrap around it. “She won’t even talk to me now and it’s all your fault,” he roars, rushing Jayden.
