Claud stomps his foot and the ground rumbles with it.
“No, no, no,” Claud whimpers. “No Campe.”
“It’s okay, Claud. We won’t let her get you,” I whisper and pat his knee.
“You think you can stop me, daughter of Zeus? I have been guarding that monster in Tartarus for eons.” Campe hisses.
Her scorpion tail strikes out at me with its poison, but I flick my whip, zapping it with electricity.
“You little bitch. I will trap him back in Tartarus once we release the Titans,” Campe screeches.
I smirk as I pull back. The stinger on her tail is smoking and sizzling with the poison she tried to get me with.
I’m not stupid. I know enough about Greek history to get me out of most problems.
“I don’t care if you have a hundred monsters ready to destroy me. I will stop you from releasing the Titans.” I cross my arms over my chest.
Jayden steps up next to me and glares at them.
“You think your beautiful matriarchal society will happen with the Titans released and demons roaming the earth? You’re delusional. The Titans hate humans. What good is a god without people to worship them?” Jayden asks with a laugh.
They really didn’t think this through.
Hecate glances at Campe with a frown. Campe has been in Tartarus for eons. She should know better than anyone what will happen if the Titans are released.
“Throw them in the pit already, Hecate,” Campe hisses.
I guess she’s not much of a talker. Oh, well.
The ground rumbles and I turn to Claud, but he shakes his head. He’s been quiet as a mouse since Campe appeared.
The rumbling continues and I glance between the worried faces of my friends.
“Tartarus is falling,” Jayden whispers.
“Fuck, are we too late?” I glance at him with wide eyes.
We can’t have gone through all this just to get here too late. I refuse to let that happen even if I have to fight off the Titans myself.
“You are too late,” Hecate sings. “You will never stop us now.”
Hecate uses her foul magic and wraps it around my arms, holding them to my sides.
“Move. You get to go in the pit and welcome our friends back to the world.” Hecate pushes me forward.
Claud roars and thrashes against the magic. He’s the only one strong enough to fight her off but Campe steps toward him with a barbed whip and flicks it out at him.
Claud cowers away from her, holding his hands over his face, and tears leak from his eye.
“Leave him alone, you overgrown lizard,” I yell.
Raven shoots me a wide-eyed stare, probably telling me to shut up but it’s too late and Campe turns her gaze on mine.
“You would rather I whip you with it? I’ll tell you, demigod, you have never felt pain like this whip can deliver.” Campe grins a malicious smile.
Claud peeks between his fingers. “No, no, no.”
“It’s okay, Claud. She’s just a bully with a god complex,” I say, staring down Campe.
