“Look, we figure we have about three days until the wards fall completely. I’m going to smack the shit out of Draven when I see him for getting kidnapped on purpose.”

Adrian scrubs a hand over his neck. “Actually, that isn’t entirely his fault.”

“You saw it, didn’t you?” I growl. “Who took his place to restore the wards? None of his siblings would go near them, even with protection.”

“Well, they still won’t, but the warrior students are handling it. We are all patrolling the wards until you all get back with the Hermes kids.”

“Yeah, we worked that out with Rebecca before we left. Tell her to double patrol. It’s going to get worse before it gets any better.” I run a hand over my ponytail.

This is total shit.

“I know. We have it from here. Just hurry, because if the wards completely fail, the academy is going to fall into complete chaos.”

Jayden shifts in his seat. “We are doing what we can, but we need to rest. Ares suggested we stop in Nashville. It’s only a few hours to the mountains from here.”

We are all on edge, so maybe going out for a couple hours will help us.

“Is there a reason you called, or are you just creeping on our progress?” Jayden asks with a smirk.

“Beware of Broadway. There are things at play there. I can’t tell you what, but there’s something weird about Nashville.” He rubs at his forehead, looking tired.

Raven sighs. “I’m sure it has Apollo written all over it.”

None of us want to deal with any more of Apollo’s antics.

Adrian groans. “I don’t think it’s Apollo, no. There’s something else going on.”

“Okay, where do we need to go?” I ask because I have a feeling that’s the reason he called.

“Humans have been going into a bar called Nudies and not coming out.”

“Humans? Monsters don’t affect humans though.” I chew my lip, sharing a look with Jayden.

Jayden sighs. “It’s not monsters.”

“It’s not,” I agree. “But if it’s not monsters, then it’s something else.”

Raven leans forward in her seat. “We will check it out. If you had a vision about it, then it’s important and Greek.”

“Yeah, humans turning up missing isn’t good for anyone.” I nod to him. “We got this.”

“Good. Try to hurry. We are running out of time.” He hangs up, the mist disappearing quickly.

I slump back in my seat. “What could be happening to humans? That just isn’t heard of with our world. We don’t mess with the humans.”

Jayden pulls into the parking lot of a hotel, and we all get out. The parking lot is pretty full, and I wonder if we’re going to have to drive around looking for another place.

We walk into the air-conditioned lobby and up to the front desk.

“Hi, we need two rooms with double beds,” I say to the woman behind the desk.

“Do you have a reservation?” She smiles back at me, and I breathe a sigh when I realize she’s definitely human.

“No, we don’t. We’re just passing through.” I drum my fingers on the counter.

“All we have left is a two-bedroom suite, but there’s only one bed each in the bedrooms.”
