“It makes sense. Shifters worship the moon.” Greyson shrugs, and Artemis chuckles.

“So with that settled, can we get back to the task at hand?” Artemis grins, pointing to a power pole.

This is such a bad idea, but I shuffle over to the pole and find the transformer box.

It’s locked with alarms on it, but they’ll be no match for my godly power.

I glance over my shoulder at Jayden who looks like he’s about to be sick and then let a small amount of electricity out to zap the box.

A buzzing alarm fills the air. I curse, letting lightning fill me, and clouds start forming overhead.

A bolt of lightning hits the pole. Everyone in the zoo lets out a collective gasp as all the power goes out.

“Shit, fuck, shit,” I yell, whipping around to face the others.

Artemis is laughing hysterically as the others look at me with dread.

“You just took out the power in the entire zoo, didn’t you?” Jayden says with a groan.

“Yes. Yes, I did. I think it’s time to run.”

What the fuck did I do?

I knew this outing would be a fucking disaster.

“Meet me at the café on East California. I’m going to take these babies home.” Artemis finger-waves at us before disappearing with all the huge cats.

“If she could do that, then why the hell did she need me?” I groan as we race through the zoo.

People are screaming as animals of all kinds break out of their enclosures.

The barn animals bay and bleat as we pass, bucking and ramming at the gates. It doesn’t take long for us to get to the entrance.

I glance over my shoulder and spy a black cat stalking us. Green eyes practically glow as it sniffs the air.

“Shit, is that jaguar stalking us? Why the hell didn’t Artemis take that one too?” I ask.

I don’t think I like the gods too much. Every encounter with them has gotten us into a huge pile of shit.

We stop in our tracks as the jaguar roars at Greyson, sensing him to be a predator in what he sees as his territory.

Jayden groans. “Umm, Beth, it looks like we’re surrounded.”

I turn, not taking my gaze completely off the jaguar, and see the grizzly on its back legs behind us.

I grimace as I look at the creatures. “They’re just animals. I don’t want to hurt animals.”

They aren’t monsters. They’re running off instincts.

“What about the wind?” Raven whispers. “Not a lot, just a little. Enough to clear the path.”

I frown. “It’s limited. What if we need it later?”

“Do you want to zap them and risk injuring them, though? Maybe just open it quickly so that only a small amount of wind escapes,” Jayden suggests quietly.

His shoulders are tensed, and his hands are balled into fists.
