“Okay, I’m good now. Get the fuck away from the fountain so it doesn’t just enchant you again once I’m done,” Adrian says and exhales loudly as if he’s still trying to contain his laughter.

He probably is. Asshole.

We all back away from the fountain far enough that we won’t be in range again but not so far that Adrian can’t work his magic. He says a few words in what I can only imagine is ancient Greek, and a familiar magic washes over me.

“Fucking hell. Thank the gods.” I test the words out and sigh with relief.

A rumbling shakes the ground, and I grab onto Jayden’s arm for balance.

“What’s happening?” I yell as Raven nearly falls into Greyson.

His hands on her hips steady her.

“Now that you are no longer under the spell, it seems to be disintegrating the magic.” Adrian cocks his head to the side. “I would get out of there quickly.”

I don’t need to be told twice to get out when magic starts going nuts.

Grabbing Jayden’s arm, I pull him with me back to the car. “We need to go. It’s going to disintegrate the whole oasis.”

We race out of there as the fountain crumbles to dust behind us.

“We need to move faster.” Jayden stumbles when the ground shakes again.

I hold on to his arm to steady him.

Raven and Greyson are having similar struggles ahead of us. All the while, Adrian stays in the mist in front of me. He’s watching our backs behind us.

“Go to the left,” Adrian yells.

I pull Jayden left as the ground we were just on crumbles to dust in a cloud and turns to desert sand.

I have a weird feeling that if we had been standing there, the worst thing that happened would not be dust on our clothes.

We would have died along with the magic.

We finally make it to the sound when an earth-shaking boom knocks us into the dirt. I land on Jayden with an oof. His arms wrap around me protectively.

“Are you okay?” he asks close to my ear, and I shiver.

“I am,” I say, watching the fountain crumble.

“Okay. Glad you’re okay, but don’t really care to watch you two make out,” Adrian pipes up.

I realize Jayden and I are way too close, and I jump off Jayden.

Shit.

I would have let him kiss me if he tried, and that opens an all new can of worms that… No. Just no.

“Where did the fountain go?” I ask Adrian.

“I think it went back where it belongs at the base of Mount Parnassus.” He shrugs, smirking at me.

This asshole sees way too much for his own good.

“Is that what your visions show you?” Jayden asks as he stands pulling me up with him.

The heat of his chest practically burns my back.
