“She was being polite, Raven.” Jayden groans and moves to the adjoining door. “See you in a few hours. I need sleep. Lock the door.”
Sleep never sounded so good than it does now. I’m just not sure it will come with all the unknowns.
How do we know if we accidentally get too close to the grove? How will we spot the other Hesperides to avoid them? Did I just set us up to be attacked because of my curiosity?
“I hope we can get out of here without running into the dragon or the other Hesperides,” I say, but I know with our luck, that probably isn’t likely.

“Where is she?” I chew my lip and shift from foot to foot. “Maybe we should just go. I know she said she would help us, but what if she’s buying time for the other Hesperides or Ladon? We don’t know this girl.”
I am panicked and jittery as I scan my friends’ faces. Raven is bouncing on the balls of her feet like she can’t stand still either.
Greyson is grinning as he peers at Raven and me. I have no idea what he thinks is so funny. This is fucking serious.
“Let’s calm down and wait a bit longer. It’s only seven, and she was here late. Do goddesses sleep? I don’t think they really need to sleep.” Raven is rambling just as much as I am.
It’s a little unnerving since she’s always so cool and collected.
Greyson laughs. “She will be here. How much coffee did you two have?”
“Umm, I’m not sure. I’ve missed coffee and may have gone overboard,” I say.
Jayden groans. “Demigods are more affected by coffee than humans. You can’t drink a ton of it, which is why we don’t have it at the academy.”
“That’s just stupid. We can pace ourselves.” Raven’s fisted hands land on her hips, and she stomps her foot, causing me to giggle uncontrollably.
“We so cannot pace ourselves. You and I are exhibits A and B on that.”
“Hey, traitor. You’re supposed to be on my side. Don’t tell them our secrets.” She shakes her head and bounces on the bed.
“Looks who’s talking.” I raise a brow at her, and she sticks her tongue out at me.
“I’m seeing a whole new side to the two of you, and I don’t know if I like it,” Jayden says, exasperated.
I giggle, punching his arm lightly. “That’s a lie.”
I guess not lightly enough because he winces and rubs his arm. Oops.
Maybe the coffee is getting to me a little. But honestly, the no coffee at the academy rule is stupid. If we had access to it, we wouldn’t overindulge.
It makes perfect sense to me.
Thia pops into the room, startling me, and I jump to the side and bump Jayden. I nearly fall, but Jayden catches me with a hand on my hip, steadying me.
“You guys are still here,” she says. “Shit. Someone outed you to my sisters. They know you’re here, and they are looking for you.”
“Fucking hell. Who tipped them off?” Jayden runs a hand over his neck.
“We need to get out of here.” I shuffle my feet nervously.
Shit. I should not have drunk so much damn coffee. It’s making me all jittery.
Raven jumps from the bed, grabbing her bag and racing to the door. “Well, come on. Maybe we can get out of town before they see us.”
She’s pretty wound up too. Maybe Jayden is right.
Coffee is bad.
