There are twelve floors, including floors for Hestia and Artemis, even though they never had children because they’re both virgin goddesses.
This also means I have the top floor to myself as the only living child of Zeus, with Jayden on the floor below me as the only living child of Hades.
“Hey, Beth,” Dax says when we get to the fifth floor, and I groan.
I was hoping he was still helping Mia.
“Hey, Dax. Did you get Mia to the healers okay?” I ask with a smile.
Dax is great, but he’s Dax, and he and Jayden’s constant bickering is driving me crazy.
I don’t understand the need to fight over me when I am not interested in either of them at the moment.
What’s the point?
“Yeah, I left her there and went back to see how I could help, but everything was already handled.” He shrugs. “What are you all doing?”
“We need to go find the missing students.” I scan the common room.
It’s the central room for all the Ares students’ dorms. Hallways branch off in all directions.
It is the perfect personification of the war god. There are weapons lining the walls and a deep red couch in front of a target.
What do they throw at the target? That’s a weird thing to have in your living room, but they are the kids of the god of war.
Raven has already trudged down one of the halls to her room to start packing.
“Do you need some help?” he asks hopefully, turning like he’s about to go pack.
Jayden growls, and I elbow him in the gut. We don’t need a fight right now.
“Actually, you are needed here, Dax. Ares will be in charge of patrolling the wards, along with the Apollo and Athena kids, to make sure no more students go missing and to watch for monsters.” I try to let him down gently by giving him a purpose, but his face falls, and he glares at Jayden.
“You’re going?” Dax growls.
“Not by my choice, believe me,” I grumble. “The Oracle said the three of us have to go,”
Jayden’s stare pierces the side of my face like he’s trying to glare a hole into my face.
Then he grins, crossing his arms over his chest. “I helped with the Nemean Lion.”
Dax takes a step forward. “All I saw was you being dragged out of there with a concussion, Jayden.”
“Yeah, because you were too late. Like always.”
“Hey, he wasn’t too late tonight. He was getting water and got Mia out of there.” I elbow Jayden again and glare at him. “The two of you need to stop this. We all have our parts to play, and the two of you sniping at each other isn’t fucking helping, so stop.”
Dax grins like he won some argument just as Raven comes back with her backpack slung over one shoulder.
She turns to Dax. “Rebecca is going to come talk to you guys about setting up patrols with the Athena and Apollo houses. You need to work together with them and make sure none of the remaining Hermes kids go anywhere near the wards alone.”
She is the unofficial leader of their house because my bestie is a total badass, and even among the Ares kids, no one can beat her.
“Let’s go continue packing so we can go grab Greyson. Were you able to contact him to let him know we’re coming?” I ask Raven as we move to the stairs again to go up to the eleventh floor.
“Yeah, he said it may be a bit hard, but his beta can watch things for him for like a week. We’re going to have to try to hurry because he can’t miss school for too long.”
Jayden takes the stairs two at a time, trying to hurry. “Well, I don’t think any of us can afford to miss too much school, but we have no idea where we’re headed.”
