“Look at that.” Jayden crouches next to me, pointing at something glowing blue at the bottom of the valley on the other side.

Electricity sparks off the space, causing my own magic to buzz beneath my skin.

“That’s the spark. I know it.” This is fucking bad.

Whoever did this is hiding behind a horde of fucking monsters and using Zeus’s object of power to keep the other students captive.

“We need a plan,” Raven grumbles.

“How are we supposed to go up against all those monsters?” Greyson asks, running a hand over his head.

I sit back on my heels. “We’re not. I just need to get past them and into the cave to get the spark and free the other students.”

“Fuck no, you’re not,” Jayden yells, and I glare at him.

This is not his choice. It’s mine.

“Are you serious right now?” I whisper-shout at him, not wanting to alert the hundreds of monsters to our presence.

“You can’t go in there alone,” he growls, reaching for me, but I pull away.

“Can you get past Zeus’s magic, Jayden?” I raise a skeptical brow at him, and his face falls.

Point made.

Boys have a tendency to not think logically. Jayden is no exception. I don’t think when it comes to me, logic is big on the list of priorities for him.

I’m the daughter of Zeus and have similar magic running through my veins.

I don’t think it will affect me. It will definitely hurt my friends though.

I’m not willing to let them get hurt when I can do it alone. I don’t care if I have to face what’s to come alone. I will do it if it keeps the people I care about safe, even Jayden.

“If I go with you, it might not affect me,” he argues.

I shake my head. “You really want to take that chance and leave Raven and Greyson to deal with the monsters by themselves?”

“Hey, we aren’t helpless, bitch.” Raven elbows me, and I grin over at her.

“I never said you were. I just don’t think you guys will be able to get through the magic.” I won’t take any chances with their lives. I can’t.

I already lost someone I love to monsters. I can’t lose anyone else. I won’t, especially not to my father’s magic and Jayden’s stupid male ego.

“You can’t go in there alone,” Jayden growls again.

“This isn’t up for debate. I need to do this.” I shake my head, backing away from the valley a bit to get some space from him.

“What about the conversation we had last night? You are not in this alone.” He throws his hands in the air in frustration.

Red tints my vision. “Oh, you want to talk about that conversation, Jayden? The same conversation where you called me reckless? Well, this is me living up to your high opinion of me.”

“Um, guys? Can we quiet down a bit, please?” Raven’s eyes widen as she scans the forest frantically. “Remember the horde of monsters who would love nothing more than to eat us?”

Shit.

I let him get to me again and could have jeopardized my friends by giving away our location to the fucking ugly bastards.

I glare at him before turning away and storming into the rocks behind me.
