“That is pretty gnarly to watch, B.” Raven grimaces and sits on the edge of the gurney next to me.
“She didn’t give us any information. She didn’t even know what the creature was.” I sigh, wincing at the pain.
Healing fucking hurts.
“She doesn’t give much away, that one,” the healer murmurs, removing his hands.
The glow extinguishes. Sweat beads at his skin, and his eyes nearly droop closed as he stumbles to the stool.
Raven jumps up, catching him and helping him lower into it.
“Are you okay?” Raven asks with a frown, patting the healer’s shoulder.
“Healing that much damage has depleted my magic, especially after helping work on the boy before you.” He takes his glasses off and rubs at his eyes.
“Jayden?” I ask too quickly, and Raven shoots a smirk at me. I stick my tongue out at her. “How is he? Do you know?”
“They were still working on him when I was pulled away to help you. I can see why. You lost a lot of blood.” He grabs the counter next to him, pulling himself up gingerly.
He waves Raven’s protests off as he makes his way to a cabinet.
“I’ll go check on him.” Raven is still grinning as she opens the curtain and starts to walk out.
“Can you find me a new shirt while you’re at it?” I call after her.
She raises a hand in acknowledgement as the curtain closes behind her.
The healer rifles through the cabinet for a couple more seconds before making a small sound of triumph and bringing a small bottle and a dropper over to me. “This will revitalize you and help replenish your blood faster. It is a potion with a small amount of ambrosia in it. Only three drops on your tongue.”
He hands me the bottle and dropper.
“I don’t think I’m going to be able to do this myself.” My arm is still stiff at my side, despite the healing.
He smiles kindly at me and takes the dropper from my hand. Then he fills it with a bright-red liquid and places three drops on my tongue.
Tingling warmth zings through me the second the last drop hits my tongue and dissolves. The stiffness in my arm vanishes, and I clench and unclench my fist.
“That stuff is amazing. Thank you.”
“It’s something we only use on special cases. It can be dangerous if used too often. Like human drugs, it can become addictive.”
I nod at the healer’s warning. Right, don’t get hurt too often and have to take too much of that. Got it. Easier said than done, though.
Raven comes rushing back into the room with a shirt in her hand and a big grin. “Jayden is fine. Rebecca wants us in her office as soon as we are done here.”
She throws the shirt to me. It’s a white dress shirt with the crest of Ares on the left chest.
My ruined shirt had a lightning bolt on the chest. I glance down at the blue, back and gold plaid skirt. The Ares shirt is going to stand out for sure.
The uniforms here reflect our godly parents, and I’m oh-so-lucky to stand out amongst all the other students here.
They separate us in everything except our classes. It makes being the only child of the king of the gods lonely, but I don’t really mind all that much.
“Courtesy of Dax. I think he likes you.” Her eyes glimmer with barely restrained laughter, and I roll mine.
I do not have the time or patience for more boy drama.
