“Now you, daughter of Zeus,” the second woman says.
I nod, taking in a huge breath. “I swear on the River Styx that we will retrieve your crowns and get them to you, provided you release our friends and the humans.”
A band wraps around my chest, squeezing it, and I gasp.
What the fuck is that?
“The oath will take your life if you break it. What you just felt ties your life to retrieving the crowns,” the muse of dance says with a grin.
“Okay, now let them go,” Jayden demands.
The muses raise their eyebrows at his command but start a long process of releasing the humans and escorting them to the other side of the wards one by one.
I still don’t see Raven and Greyson though.
“Where are they?” I ask warily.
“I don’t know. I don’t see them.” Jayden is scanning the room past all the confused humans but doesn’t seem to see them either.
“They aren’t here. What did the muses do with them?” I storm over to the women and cross my arms over my chest. “Where are our friends?”
The muse of dance smirks. “We have seen only one other hero, and she was promptly detained.”
“She had a shifter with her. Where are they? You promised to release our friends and all the humans.” I glare at the women.
What the fuck did they do with them?
“They were attempting to interfere in our punishments. We sent them to our sisters to pay for their crimes,” the second muse says.
I throw my hands up in the air in frustration. “Bring them back. We need them to find the crowns and finish our mission.”
They knew what they did before making the agreement. Sneaky fucking muses.
The muse of dance grins. “We are not the ones who swore an oath on the Styx, young demigod. Let this be a lesson to you to never make an oath like that without requesting the same in return.”
“Well then, the oath means nothing, and we don’t have to retrieve your crowns.” Jayden grins right back.
His shadows are writhing with his anger though.
The second muse scoffs. “We released the humans.”
“Did you hear the way I carefully worded my oath?” Jayden asks, crossing his arms over his chest.
“You said we had to release the humans. We did that,” the muse of dance replies with a snarl.
“Provided that you release our friends and the humans.” Jayden lifts a brow at them, and they both curse.
“I want my friends back. Now.” My hands clench and unclench at my sides as I scowl at the muses.
I will get my friends back before wve Nashville. Bottom line.
“You can have them back once we have the crowns.” The second muse takes a threatening step forward.
“That wasn’t the deal we made,” I shout at them. “The oracle was clear that they would be instrumental in helping us save the academy.”
It’s probably a bad move to yell at the muses, but they are pissing me off.
Jayden wraps an arm around my waist, pulling my back into his chest in an attempt to calm me. It doesn’t work. My electricity zaps angrily around my fingers.
