I grimace. “Let’s keep the fuck away from the big cats. That has disaster written all over it.”
“Do big cats and wolves fight like cats and dogs?” Raven giggles as Greyson glares at her.
“Cute, brat. You’ll pay for that later,” he whispers in her ear, but we all hear it.
“All right, where do we start?” Jayden grumbles.
It’s been tense between us since we left the Alluring Torch. I just don’t know how to handle what we did.
Things were getting better between us. I could almost forgive him for the things he did, but after the events in that hotel, my mind is running away with itself.
Would I have done it without the magic? No. I would not have.
And that just fucks with my head and my heart.
I don’t think being around Raven and Greyson and their lovey-dovey crap is helping matters either.
“I think going through the children’s zoo and checking the sea animals’ area would be the least problematic. Maybe there’s a…water spirit who needs to see you?” Greyson says, seeming to forget the term for Nereid.
“I don’t think it will be that simple.” I shake my head. “But yeah, we don’t want to stir up the predators if it’s a Nereid who needs to tell us something.”
We make our way through the children’s zoo and past a giant tortoise before we get to the sea lion enclosure.
No one looks out of place.
Usually, Nereids have blue-tinted skin and blue hair, but there isn’t anyone here who looks like that.
We continue our search.
“It’s not a Nereid,” I grumble. “Where to next?”
“Let’s go through here and back by the entrance and over to the camels,” Greyson says.
As we pass the barnyard, all the farm animals start stomping their feet and running in the other direction, almost causing a stampede to get away from Greyson.
I flinch. Yeah, barnyard animals would be scared of the wolf beneath his skin.
We pass back by the food court and souvenir shops and over to the camel rides.
There are several people waiting to get on a camel’s back, but it bucks up and starts thrashing, trying to get away from the handler.
There’s another camel already walking with passengers, and it bucks too. It pulls away from its handler and runs off with the terrified people on its back screaming and holding on for dear life.
“Let’s get out of here before someone gets hurt,” I say, pulling Raven with me, and the guys follow close behind.
“I told you this was a bad idea,” Greyson whispers behind me. “All the animals are freaking out, and we’re headed to the predators.”
“We don’t have a choice. When a seer tells you to do something, you do it.” Jayden whispers back, looking around to make sure no one can hear us, but no one’s paying attention to us.
They’re watching the camels and the handlers trying unsuccessfully to rein them in. I just hope no one got hurt.
“I don’t see anyone or feel any kind of power except our own,” I grumble. “This entire place is going to descend into chaos if we don’t figure out who we’re supposed to be meeting.”
“None of the animals here are native to Greece or have a Greek god associated with them,” Raven says, and her eyes widen. “Shit.”
“What?” I ask.
Dread pools in my gut when she shows me a spot on the map.
