Jayden shrugs. “Snakes feel vibrations in the earth. It’s how they hear things to hunt. These vehicles put off a lot of vibrations.”

“Then why hasn’t it come after us yet?” I ask no one in particular, leaning forward to get a better look at the giant slithering monster. “What is it wrapped around?”

Raven squints at it. “Probably protecting the fountain, but I don’t know why.”

“Let’s hope the thing can’t talk, then.” Greyson chuckles, breaking the tension a bit.

“Agreed.” I giggle. “Well, we’re just wasting time. Let’s kill it so I can call Adrian back and get the shifters fixed and get the hell out of here.”

After opening my door, I step out of the car and grab my bag and sword.

Raven closes her door harder than necessary and steps next to me, grinning. “You acting as bait again?”

“No,” Jayden says before I can get a word out.

I smile at him.

He may be an overprotective, overbearing jerk, but this time he’s right. Baiting this thing is going to be a bad idea.

A fifty-foot snake with a mouth big enough to swallow me whole is not something I want to lure into a trap.

I look over at the alpha. “Keep your men back, Tristan. They are not equipped to handle this thing.”

“Yeah, and a bunch of college kids are?” He scoffs, squaring his shoulders like I just challenged him or something.

Smirking, I let lightning crackle along the blade of my sword, and Tristan gulps, taking a step back.

I grin. “Yeah, that’s what I thought. Just stay back.”

Raven nudges my arm. “What’s the plan?”

“I say we try to get behind it and all attack at the same time. It doesn’t have arms or legs to lash out with, only its mouth and tail, and there are three of us.” I peer between Raven and Jayden who both nod.

“You mean four,” Greyson growls. “If Raven is fighting, then I am too.”

“You should stay back with Tristan and his wolves.” I turn to him, but the anger in his eyes makes me pause.

“No, I’m a part of this mission to the East Coast, and I am not a liability.” His eyes glow with his wolf.

Shit. What do we do here?

I groan. “Raven, talk to him.”

She shrugs. “You need to stay back, babe. You don’t have powers like we do.”

Greyson doesn’t listen and starts stripping his shirt over his head.

“What the hell are you doing?” I spin on my heel so I’m not staring at my best friend’s boyfriend getting naked right out in the middle of the desert in front of everyone.

“He’s going to shift.”

I don’t look up at Tristan as he speaks, but there’s humor in his voice as if he’s laughing at me.

“Greyson, what the hell?” Raven says, exasperated.

A wolf growl responds to her.

Raven sighs out in frustration. “He’s shifted. The stupid idiot. You can turn around now, B.”
