Raven giggles. “Why’s he creepy? He’s just standin’ on the corner.”

She points to the sign above the head of the statue.

“I can see that, but there’s something weird going on.” I shiver with unease and step away from it.

I do not like that thing.

I want so desperately to zap her for not trusting me that there is something very weird here, but there are too many humans around, taking pictures with the weird statue.

Why would they want to take pictures with a weird statue? It’s kind of ridiculous.

It gives me the creeps. I shiver as I feel eyes on me again, but when I look at the statue, it’s exactly the same.

Greyson shrugs. “I think he was some rock legend or something who wrote a song about the town.”

He knows more about human culture than most of the rest of us.

“Either way, it’s creepy, and we should probably get away from it.” I turn to glare at the thing, sure I felt eyes on me, but just like before, it hasn’t moved.

Jayden scans the area, filled with humans with cameras out, and nods. “Too many electronics in human hands for my liking.”

“It’s just a recipe for trouble,” I agree and stomp away.

The humans aren’t my only concern. I have a strange feeling about this place.

“Should we just keep going and find another town?” I ask, fidgeting as we wander.

Raven keeps pace with me. “It could be a long time before we find another town, and I’m starving.”

She loops her arm with mine, never sparing the guys a backward glance.

I guess she’s still angry, and I don’t really blame her, though something about that whole incident doesn’t sit right with me.

Why did the siren who enthralled Jayden look like me? Did they somehow get into their minds and find out what they desired most?

Why would Jayden pick me? He had Mia, and I would think the siren would have pulled her out of his mind, right?

Unless he’s been telling the truth, and he and Mia were never together. Can I really believe that though? He never pushed her away until just a few days ago.

Can I trust him based on a theory I have about sirens? I don’t really know. I wish I knew more about the disgusting creatures.

“What about that place?” Raven asks, pointing to a small strip mall.

“I don’t see any restaurants there.” I shake my head, and we keep moving.

We find this cute old-time diner and decide it’s better than nothing. It’s modern but with a classic car on the roof.

Humans are weird.

Raven tilts her head back, looking at it. “How do you think they got that up there without magic?”

“My guess would be a crane,” Jayden says thoughtfully, also marveling at the car.

Raven is finally talking to the guys again, but I keep seeing her scowling at Greyson when he tries to get close to her.

The diner hostess grins, greeting us, and leads us to a booth in the back.

Raven and I take the table with our backs to the wall, and a shiver runs down my spine as the hair on the back of my neck stands on end.
