“You see the color of this card, Beth? It’s a black card.” She waves the card in my face, and I smack her hand away. “Those do not have limits. Chill out. We can rest in style tonight, and then when we stop tomorrow, we can find somewhere cheaper if it makes you uncomfortable.”
When we get out of the car, a chill rolls through me, but not from anything ominous. It’s just cold in the desert at night.
“I would not have thought it would be this cold at night.” I rub my hands over my arms and hurry through the automatic doors of the fancy hotel that I never would have stepped inside in my old life.
Raven starts across the lobby. “I’ll go grab a couple rooms.”
Jayden is standing there, looking hopeful, so I rush to catch up with Raven.
“You can’t leave me alone with him and Greyson,” I growl low, and Raven rolls her eyes.
“If you think you aren’t going to be left alone with him at some point during this trip, then you’re delusional, B.”
Shit. She’s right. Her boyfriend, or whatever he is to her, is with us. I can’t ask her to constantly be the buffer between us.
“Sorry, you’re right,” I say, turning to the girl at the desk.
There’s something weird about her. I can’t quite put my finger on it though.
Her eyes are a shade of gray I have never seen before and her silver hair almost glitters in the fluorescent lighting. She’s tiny, but I won’t let that fool me.
She eyes us curiously. “Welcome to Hesperia. My name is Thia. Do you have a reservation?”
I take a step away. A shiver goes up my back.
She has to be some kind of supernatural, but I can’t place what she is. Not that I’ve met many supernaturals.
Raven smiles politely at the girl. “No, we took a wrong turn on the highway and ended up in this adorable little town and decided to stop and rest. We’re just passing through.”
I have known her long enough to see the strain in her smile. She feels like something is off about this girl too.
“Can we get two rooms with double beds for the night, please?” I hand her the black credit card, and her eyes widen just slightly as she looks at it.
It’s almost as if she recognizes the company name on the card, but if that’s true, then she knows about demigods, and that’s not exactly a good thing.
It would probably be obvious to anyone Greek what Olympus Holdings has to do with.
“Sure thing,” she chirps happily and swipes the card before handing it back to me.
Her hand wavers almost like she’s an illusion.
My eyes have got to be playing tricks on me.
“Here are your keys, and we have a continental breakfast from six to nine. Check out time is eleven.” She gives us the keys, and her hand is completely solid this time.
Well, I think I need sleep because I’m seeing things. I gingerly take the keys, thanking her and turning to head back to the guys.
Something weird is going on in this town. I’m sure of it.
“Did you get weird vibes off her?” I whisper to Raven.
I just want her to say no so I can relax and try sleeping, but all my hopes are dashed when she nods, putting a finger to her lips.
“Let’s wait until we get upstairs,” she mouths, and I nod.
The guys are staring at us with confused expressions, and I shake my head just barely. It’s enough that Jayden sees and then turns to push the button for the elevator.
“I knew this was a bad idea,” Jayden says when the elevator doors shut. “What are the odds that the first person you encountered here would be a supe? Like none if we weren’t in a town named for the damn Hesperides.”
