“No, Alpha. I would never hurt her.” He averts his eyes, baring his neck in submission.

“Good, I’ll be on my way then.” I wave to Angela, whose eyes glow with anger.

“You’re an asshole for scaring him like that.” She growls, throwing her hands up in frustration.

“You should expect nothing less.” I stroll away.

“I hope you have daughters so they can torture you.” I stumble at her words, and she laughs. It’s not for the reason she probably thinks. The idea of having cubs with my mate fills me with something I don’t think I have ever felt before.

Watching Jara grow heavy with my cubs would be the most fantastic thing in the world. I shake myself. We need to eliminate these threats before I can even think about that. I just need to find them first. Easier said than done.

“We have a pack meeting in an hour,” Archer calls out, but I’m still trying to find my favorite sundress. It was here last night. I hung it in the closet last night. Where the hell did it go? Am I going crazy?

Flipping through the hangers again, I sigh, not finding the dress.

“Have you seen my dress?” I yell back down the stairs to him. “I hung it in the closet last night, and it’s gone now.”

“What do you mean?” Archer flies up the stairs and pushes into the room, sniffing the air. A growl fills the space, and he is suddenly chest-to-chest with me sniffing me.

“Archer? What are you doing?” I take a step back, but his arm snakes around my waist, pinning me to his chest. He buries his nose in my hair, inhaling deeply.

“There is a strange scent in here.” He growls angrily. “Someone was in here. Who?”

“What?” I balk. There has not been another person, wolf or otherwise, in this room with me except for Archer.

What the fuck does he smell?

I take a deep breath through my nose, but Archer’s spicy scent is the only thing I smell.

“I don’t scent them on you.” He grunts almost to himself.

His wolf is close to the surface, riding him hard, and I pat his chest to calm him.

“So, someone broke in and stole my dress? Why? That doesn’t make any sense.” I shake my head but then remember the other incidents with my clothes either going missing or being shredded, and I sigh.

“Is the person male or female?” I can’t accuse who I think it is. Rochelle is catty and dumb enough to try to inconvenience me that way.

“Male,” Archer growls. I wish I knew what is going through his head right now. He looks about ready to lock me up and throw away the key.

Okay, so Rochelle isn’t directly involved, but it has her signature all over it. She could have enlisted the help of a male member of the pack, or it could be the strange wolf we have seen in our territory.

“Why are they stealing my clothes?” I throw my hands up in the air before walking back into the closet and searching for something else to wear to the pack meeting.

“It’s a clear threat to you, Jara.” Archer slams his hand into the wall.

“If there is a real threat here, then maybe I should go visit my family until it is dealt with.” I am grasping at straws here and probably about to start a huge fight, but wouldn't I be safer outside the pack if there is a threat in the pack?

“No. You are not to leave pack lands, Jara. I’m not convinced that Grayson isn’t a part of this. Whatever their endgame is, it will not happen.” He yells, punching the wall this time, and I flinch. Archer sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration. “I will protect you, but you must stay in pack lands.”

I nod once and change into the dress I picked for the pack meeting, and when I walk back into the bedroom from the closet, Archer is gone.

“I guess I’m going to the meeting alone,” I grumble and walk out of the bedroom, firmly shutting the door behind me.

“You ready?” Angela asks from the bottom of the stairs holding out a breakfast sandwich for me. I take it gratefully.
