Shit. I had totally forgotten about Bonnie. Did she know about this? Was she complicit in his actions? I’ll never forgive her if she knew what was happening.

“I don’t care if he’s busy. He has some shit to atone for, and he will even if I have to trespass on your territory to do it.” He bellows.

I fall into the chair across from his desk and wait, only really hearing his side of the conversation, but it sounds like Bonnie is giving him excuses why Kyle can’t come to the phone. She sounds more guilty by the minute.

“Look, in two hours, I am getting in my truck to deliver something that belongs to that asshole. He better be ready to fucking see me.” Archer hangs up the phone with a growl.

“Do you think Bonnie is in on this?” I ask softly. Archer’s eyes snap to mine and soften a bit. I made friends with the other alpha females at the summit, and I don’t like the idea of one of them being in on a plot to murder me.

“I don’t think she is. She sounded extremely confused to hear from me.” Archer shrugs, moving closer to me and patting my shoulder.

“That’s good to know.” I sigh. It didn’t sit well with me that she would be so cruel, but if I have learned anything about shifters, they aren’t always what they seem.

There’s a soft knock on the front door, and I stand to go answer it, but Archer beats me to it, and a tiny tornado comes flying into the room and wraps her arms around my legs.

“Libby, I have told you a thousand times to wait until you are invited to walk into someone’s home.” Patrick chastises the girl.

“It’s okay. I love getting hugs.” I pat the girl's head.

“Sorry, Alpha. She heard Jara was at the meeting and wouldn’t stop bugging me until she got to see her.” Patrick’s ears turn pink in embarrassment.

“That’s perfectly fine. We have some time to waste before we can head out.”

“I haven’t seen you in forever.” Libby groans dramatically, making me giggle.

“It’s only been a couple of weeks.” I grin down at her.

“But, where have you been? Don’t you like our pack?” she pouts. I hear what she’s really asking, though. She feels like I abandoned her and her family. I crouch down so I am at eye level with her.

“Alpha had to make a tough decision because I wasn’t safe. I had to stay away from everyone for a little while, just like you weren’t allowed to go into the forest, right?” I tap her nose, hoping I didn’t give too much away, as I know Patrick doesn’t want her to know what Carter tried to do.

“Is it safe now?” she asks, and I look up at Patrick in question.

“The bad wolf is gone, pumpkin. That’s all you need to know.” Patrick says, ruffling her hair.

“Ugh, daddy, you messed up my hair.” She growls, making us all chuckle.

“Sorry, pumpkin.” He says, still chuckling. Libby is not impressed, glaring at the two men in the room with her little fists on her hips.

“Are you excited about the hunt tonight?” I ask before I realize what I’m saying and widen my eyes at Patrick and mouth sorry to him.

“It’s okay. I told her about the hunt already.” Patrick smiles at me, shoving his hands in his pockets.

“I’m so excited, Jara. My wolf has been a cranky pants lately.” Libby grimaces.

“I understand that.” I chuckle. “My wolf is a bit angry at the alpha right now.”

Archer scoffs, shaking his head. He moves to the desk and sits behind it. “Alex and Angela are going out to the cabin to get it, and then we are taking a short trip,” Archer says to Patrick, who nods stiffly.

“You’re taking your mate into enemy territory?” Patrick eyes me with concern.

“She has the right to confront him for what he’s done.” Archer drums his fingers on the desk. “I will have enforcers with us.”

“Let me come help, Alpha.” Patrick looks at Archer, hopefully.

Archer sighs but nods his acceptance. Libby peers between the three of us, and I’m ready for the request that comes from her mouth before she even opens it. “No, Libby. This is an adult matter. We can’t put you in possible danger, okay?”

Libby’s face falls at my words. “But…”
