She wondered briefly why a data analyst would have scuffedbiker boots, but his hand on her hips as he pulled her closer drove every other thought from her mind.
“Tell me why you are getting a spanking, naughty girl.”
Her mind blanked. She couldn’t even have told him her name right then. Thankfully, her brain eventually kicked back in. “I didn’t stay where you told me to. and that wasn’t safe.”
He nodded. “And?”
And? He wanted more? Ugh! “And…even though it wasn’t this time, it could have been unsafe.”
His eyes narrowed. This time, his “And?” was more of a growl.
She widened her eyes at him. He really wanted her to own up to everything. Sheesh! “I…ran and hid. And I didn’t come out when you called me. Oh, and I stepped on a spider this morning because they are icky and gross, but I guess I should have trapped him and thrown him into the backyard.”
Sawyer couldn’t help but smile. “Okay, babygirl, I’ll cut you a break on that last one.”
“You will?” She sighed in relief.
“Never let it be said that I’m not a reasonable Daddy. You won’t be punished for stepping on the spider.”
She frowned. “But you’ll still spank me for the other things?”
“Oh yes, definitely”
“But...” she started. Before she could start arguing, he interrupted her.
“Talking time is over, little girl,” he said as he grabbed her wrist and tugged.
Uh oh. “No, wait!”
Why in the name of great granny’s ghost did you say that?
Because she was in the grips of mindless terror. She tried to resist, but it was a laughable attempt. The next thing she knew, she was over his lap, face down. She tried to squirm or shimmy off his knee, but he held her in place with an arm around her waist.
In her efforts to hook her leg around his to pull herself off, sheaccidentally kicked him in the shin. He howled in pain. Once he had her legs captured by his right leg, he said, “Thanks for that reminder. That makes twice you’ve kicked me.”
“I’m sorry!” she wailed. “I didn’t mean to kick you!”
“I didn’t think you did, but unintentional kicks hurt just as bad as intentional ones. And both times, you were trying to get away from Daddy. You do not run from me, little girl. It could be dangerous if I’m trying to keep you safe. If you don’t think you can trust me, tell me now. I’ll go back across the street, and we will be good neighbors. But that is all. You should never accept a Daddy you don’t trust. Do you trust me enough to be your Daddy?”
Did she trust him? Being around him had never made her feel anything but happy and safe. And, well, Little. “I do trust you. You’ve never hurt me or lied to me. I think I just panic easily. I didn’t use to. It’s something I learned in prison. The only person in there I could trust was Mama Sam.
“Moma Sam?”
“Yeah, she was really tough. She ran a gang, but for some reason, she took a liking to me. She said I reminded her of her daughter.”
“I’m sorry you went through that. I’m going to do everything I can to make that better, so you never have to think about it again. But right now, we have a punishment to take care of. Are you ready?”
Everything inside her settled. She was still anxious, but her mindless terror was gone. She nodded and said, “Y-Yes, Daddy.”
“Good girl. Now, I want you to lift your skirt to your waist.”
Her eyes shot to the windows. The three curtainless, blindless windows. What if someone could see inside? Her pulse picked up speed. Anyone could see inside if they made it their business to look.
She turned pleading eyes on her Daddy. “B-but, Daddy. I have neighbors, and if someone drives by, they might see me.”
He arched a brow. “Now you’re worried about being seen by someone driving by? It didn’t seem to be a concern a few minutes ago. Skirt. Up. Now.”
Her cheeks must be glowing from the heat radiating from them. She scanned the outside visible through the windows once more before catching her hem and gathering her skirt up to her waist, doing her best to hold back a whimper.
