“Thanks for having my back, Mila,” Eamon said.

“No problem. I mean, you’re only acting out on your inadequacies about Kellan being a sex god, right?” I teased.

Eamon snorted. “I’m going to like you a lot.

Dare laughed. “So am I.”

“You'd better, 'cause you’re stuck with me. You know, since my father will kill me if I ever leave.”

Although I’d meant it as a joke, the others didn’t laugh. Instead, the air around us grew tense. Thankfully, the jet door opened, signaling we could leave. Once we’d all piled into the two SUVs, we headed to the Kavanaugh mansion.

“I knowyou’d like to get settled in at your place, but Mam thinks it's best for you to stay with us for a week or two,” Callum said.

“So she can takecare of me?” Kellan mused.

“Exactly.”

“She could’ve just cometo my place to do that.”

Callum shifted slightly in his seat. “We all feel that it’s best security-wise for you to stay with us.”

“It’s not serious enough for lockdown, is it?” Kellan said.

Even though I wasn’t Irish, I knew what he meant by lockdown. We had something similar in Bratva where as many family and soldiers as possible would hunker down in the main house in times of trouble.

“Do you think my father is still a threat?” I asked.

“We’re not sure. We just want to be proactive, just in case.”

My stomach churned at the thought of my father bringing danger to the Kavanaughs. I thought by leaving he would be done with me. But I was starting to wonder if I would ever be out of danger as long as he lived.

CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT: MILA

Although the mention of my father had tempered my excitement, it soon recovered as we pulled up to Callum’s house. While it was where he currently resided, all the brothers had once lived under the roof. “It’s beautiful,” I murmured.

“Thank you.”

As the SUV came to a stop, I said, “It’s not what I expected when you said you all lived there at one time.”

Kellan laughed. “Did you think of some swinging bachelor pad?”

Nodding, I replied, “Something edgier and more modern.”

“My father bought it because it reminded him of our estate back in Belfast. Since we were all homesick when we first came over, it helped that it did resemble a little bit of home. Of course, we weren’t used to living in a major city.”

“I can’t imagine trying to adjust to another country. It was hard enough leaving my mother’s home for Father and Faina’s.”

As we got out of the SUV, Kellan said, “When I’m recovered, I want you to feel comfortable enough to redecorate in any way you want. And if you want to move somewhere else, we’ll do it.”

With a smile, I replied, “You’re spoiling me.”

He pulled me to his side. “Is there something wrong with that?”

I shrugged. “I have never really been spoiled before.”

“Then let me do it.”

“Okay, I’ll try.”
