Silence, and then laughter from the Barnabus freak.
Suddenly, I felt more powerful than ever before. It’s like something literally shoved me into superpower mode, and that’s when Aria’s eyes changed back to normal.
“Now, we kill it together, and this all ends,”I heard my mother say inside my mind.
My mother’s presence confirmed to me that she possessed us with her power. Aria and I turned and started an incantation on the demon. I imagined the thing in the same locked-up place as its master, being tortured and killed over and over. His eyes instantly went to fear as I watched his arms, flinging about and trying to fight where Aria and I were both now sending him to.
Aria began to chant him into the depths of hell, and in her chant, it provoked all demons to follow. Her voice shifted to close the gates of hell and to never allow any demon to walk the earth again. Over and over and for what felt like days, Aria chanted while I meditated and envisioned their demise until there was nothing but silence. The room went black as if turning off a television, and I fell under a trance of relaxation.
“We’re free,” I heard my mom say. “Come with me, and we’ll live in harmony together.”
“What?” I questioned, no longer feeling myself in my body. “Oh, God, no!” I said.
“Aria will live out the legacy, Elle. You gave too much too fast. Your spirit could not withstand being in a body that wasn’t strong enough to keep it.”
“Did I just explode into dust particles too?” I said, feeling only my consciousness and nothing else.
“You’re free now, child. You and me. Everyone else is at peace.”
“No,” I said, trying to find my body.
“It’s only our voices and minds here. Accept the peace, and you can cross into the peaceful place where I am.”
“I can’t,” I said. “I have to find a way back.”
“Your body is gone,” she answered, and I could hear the sadness in her voice.
“No,” I said. “I can’t leave Aria, and I won’t leave them. I’m not ready.”
“They are learning to adjust.”
“What do you mean?” I said. “How long have I been dead? Five seconds later, and they’re learning to adjust?”
“It’s been a year in human life. Here there is no time. Even their mortal souls, when they expire, will be here, and it will feel like seconds of not having them.”
“No. No. No.” I felt tears. Oh, shit. I felt something as I began imagining my body returning, and this juiced-up, mental power dwindling.
“You’ll live a free life if this is what you choose now.”
That was the last I heard of my mother’s voice before I woke up in some barn next to a mooing cow.WTF!I was naked as if I’d been sent back to earth the way I was born into it.
Clothes. I need fucking clothes. As soon as I demanded the clothes, I was in jeans and a hoodie. I fled the barn that led to a tractor. I went to jump on the thing, forgetting I just manifested my ass back into my body and threw on some clothes. Certainly, I wouldn’t need to drive five miles per hour to get somewhere.
Take me to my men…to my daughter.
Just like that, I was walking through the Oregon lodge and hearing voices outside. I peered out through the window to see Zane, throwing a football around with my vamps.
Moving on indeed…assholes and their football shit.
I walked out onto the front porch and was shocked that no one heard or turned around. They had dark circles under their eyes but still seemed to have strength.
Interesting. Where is Aria?
“Glad you all know how to move the hell on,” I said.
The ball Logan was about to catch hit him in his chest while they all stared at me as if I were a ghost that came back to haunt them.
“Where’s Aria?” I asked.
