“I’m fascinated by thisalpha,” the vamp named Alex said as he squared up with Zane. “I want to know why an alpha wants to fuck a human.” He scrunched his nose up in disgust. “A human who reeks of alcohol, no less.” He kept his dark eyes on me. “How’d you make a shifter go against his instincts and want to have anything to do with a human?”

“She’s my fuck-toy,” Zane said in some weird voice. “I think you vamps could appreciate why I would go against my natural instincts after seeing this sexy ass and having it rub up against me all night, right?”

“What the fuck,” I said, now thoroughly inebriated and pissed, trying my best to keep up with what was happening despite how fuzzy everything was becoming. “I’m not your fuck toy, asshole.”

The vampires laughed and smirked at Zane. “Yeah, I guess I could understand. Looks like the little whore doesn’t want your dick up in that.”

“That’s why I’m going against instinct,” Zane played along. “Unless you boys want to drink blood that has so much fucking vodka in it that even you will probably end up with alcohol poisoning, I suggest letting me take this human for the night. Her blood is no use to you.”

Alex eyed Zane then me with some vampy grin. “You come here a lot, sweetheart?” he asked.

Zane squeezed my hand. “First time I’ve seen her,” he said.

“You’re lucky you got her when you did and that her blood isn’t something that I’m interested in. Good luck trying to fuck her. She’ll probably pass out before you get her out of here,” Alex said, laughing with the three others who joined him.

“He’s a damn wolf. He’d probably fuck her either way,” the blond vamp said with a look of disgust. “Can we get on with it? We’re wasting our time, taunting some wolf who’s out of his league here.”

“What the hell are you doing down here anyway, wolf?” Alex became concerned again.

Shit.

“My pack was pissing me off, and I needed a change. Nothing wrong in seeing what the nightlife is like in Florida, right?”

“Yeah, okay. Enjoy the human and stay out of our bar.”

Alex and his vamp groupies smoothly glided into the crowd of dancing humans while Zane escorted me the hell out of danger.

“You okay?” he asked.

“Yeah, I’m about to pass the hell out. This alcohol is building on me.”

“We’ll get you some water—”

That’s all he could say before I projectile vomited all of the unneeded booze all over the stairs and out of my system, and disgustingly enough, I ended up making a trail of barf as Zane rushed me out of the place.

“Fuck, Elle,” he said. “That hit hard and fast.”

“I don’t drink like that,” I said, trying to recover. As drunk as I was, I was grateful all that shit was out of my system, and my body wasn’t going to absorb the rest.

“I know,” he answered, throwing me over his shoulder and sprinting to the sports car we’d commandeered from our garage before we headed out to dinner. “So much for a romantic walk on the beach,” he said, buckling me into my seat.

“Your fault,” I said, resting my head against the seat rest, feeling like I could sleep here and now.

I pretty much blacked out until we got to the house, and I woke up to find that Zane was carrying me into the house after shutting the garage door behind us.

“You need some water,” he said, leading me to the kitchen.

“What the hell,” I stammered.

“Sorry about that. The alcohol was the only way I knew how to cover up your precious little Life Blood scent after sensing that coven of vamps heading up to the club.”

“Oh, shit,” I said in an exhale. “You think they sniffed it out?”

Zane rolled his eyes. “Those jack asses scented the blood, that’s why they wouldn’t leave my ass alone. Thank God you asked for another shot. It covered up every last ounce of your scent. Now, I bet they’re sniffing out every human in that place since your blood scent is probably still lingering there.”

“Do you think they’ll track us down out here?”

“Not unless they can follow the potent trail of vodka,” Zane smirked while opening a refreshing bottle of ice water from the fridge. “It was a close call. I need to call Cole and see if he knows about this asshole named Alex and his vamps.”
