“What the hell is that going to accomplish?” Logan snapped.
“What do you think?” Cole growled. “Son of a bitch!” he shouted and stood. “She’s cursed Elle to suffer until we give in and give her what she wants—our children.”
“So you think this witch is on Roman and Lucas’s trail, trying to follow them to where we’re at?” Braden asked. “I guess that would make perfect sense since the bitch most likely knows that they’re our closest allies.” He stopped himself and rubbed his forehead.
“We need to get a step ahead of her then,” Zac said, perking up a bit. “We use Roman, Lucas, and Edgar heading out in that private jet as bait for us to find her, butcher her, make her watch us carve out her insides while she’s still alive—”
“Dude!” I cut off Zac with wide eyes. “I know I have no appetite, but I really don’t think I want to take a stab at food while thinking of your medieval torture plan.”
“Fair enough,” Zac grinned. “Logan, Braden, and I will go over the details of what we’re going to do to this bitch somewhere else.” He stood, prompting all my vamps to stand around the table and look at each other in hostile mind-reading mode. “We need to track her. I have the tracking skills, and Braden has the muscle. We’ll have Edgar use his witchy magic to hold her down while we proceed to make her pay for whatever it is she’s doing to Elle.”
“Alright,” Cole said. “Listen up. I think you’re onto something, Zac, but I want Braden here with Elle. We’re in a new location, and we’re always sensed by ancient immortals when we enter their territory. I don’t want any vamps sneaking around this place until we can get Lucas and Roman’s trackers down here to reinforce the outer perimeters of this property.”
Logan crossed his arms and shook his head. “We are stronger together and here with Elle. Fuck!” He ran a hand through his hair. “What the hell do we do? Split up and risk another nest of vamps trying to come in and take Elle? Stay together and watch Elle suffer?”
“First of all,” Cole used his alpha voice to silence the cousins, “we stop fucking overreacting. We go with plan A.”
“What the hell is plan A?” I asked in unison with Braden.
“Zac will hunt for any witch or suspicious activity around Dallas where Lucas and Roman are grounded, waiting for me to give them the go-ahead to come here.” Cole looked at Zac. “You’d better be smart about it too. This witch may catch onto you tracking her before you catch on to her. We don’t need you getting spelled to bring a bunch of crazy witches to our location like the New Orleans situation.”
“Got it,” Zac answered.
“I’ll go with him,” Logan said.
“I’ll let Lucas know what’s up, and I’ll tell him to prep Edgar.” Cole looked at me. “We’re going to fix this shit and fix it fast. I can’t handle whatever is going on with you. Aside from the way you’ve been feeling, you’re looking more and more malnourished.”
I ran the tips of my fingers under my eyes, “It’s getting worse isn’t it?”
Silence and anger filled the room so thick you could cut it with a knife.
“It’s going to get fixed, baby. If I didn’t love you so damn much, I’d be ready to leave with Logan and Zac right now to tear this witch up for what she’s already done to you,” Braden said as he leaned his tall frame down to kiss me on top of my head. “I’ll take my wrath out on something else. Right now, all that matters is your safety.”
“I know you want to shred this crazy witch, but I really do feel more comfortable with you here.” I looked at Cole, “Especially after what you said about the immortals down here sniffing us out. Who knows, they could possibly be spelled by that witch to hunt me down too.”
“That’s another great point,” Cole said, glancing around at his cousins. “Listen, if you can’t get this witch taken out within the next few days, get your asses back here. I’m going to look up another way to keep Elle safe.”
“What way is that?” Logan asked dryly. “Calling in our favor to those fucking fairies?”
“We don’t owe those bastards anything,” Braden snapped. “And they could only dream of the day that we would ask for their dark and twisted ways of helping us. Those little fuckers would probably just be an added enemy once they learn about the power that our children could have mixed in with Elle’s DNA.”
“No fucking fairies this time,” Cole said. “I’ll have to suck it up and get a hold of the pack.”
“The hell you will,” Zac said with a look of repulsion. “Fuckthe wolf shifters.”
“We may be completely fucked without them.” Cole raised an eyebrow to his cousin. “Last resort, but you know as well as I do that the wolves and their shamans hate witches almost more than they hate vampires. They’re our only hope.”
“Wait a minute,” I spoke up. “If they hate vampires, why the heck would we want to go knocking on their door for help?”
I watched all four of my vampires exchange knowing glances. “This may disturb you,” Logan glanced over at me and then I watched him exhale and pinch the bridge of his nose. “Shit.”
“Disturb me? Someone better start talking. No secrets and no protecting Elle from what’s out there,” I demanded the four.
“Your best friend, Jen, left with her parents because of us,” Cole finally said, his emerald eyes probing into mine, begging me to read his mind.
“What!?” I snapped. I felt my heart speed up. “How—why? What are you talking about?” I couldn’t hardly get the words out.
“They’re part of the shifters,” Zac said carefully. “Your friend’s dad, Jon, is their alpha.”
