“Know what this is, you little fuck?” he spat in Nakia’s face. “One tiny little prick and this will weaken you, and you will never take a pack as your own.” He smiled. “Yes, I see your alpha. I feel it, and I won’t let it happen. I’m about to fuck you over and lock up your alpha nature in your mind. Orphans aren’t alphas, they’re a weakness.” He glanced over to the crowd and smiled eerily back to Nakia, “Bren’s already suffering the consequences of this blade, now it’s your turn.” He looked across the way while Nakia was still shutting down his inner wolf. “You’re next, Zane. Soon enough they’ll learn that bringing orphans to my school only results in me ruining them and keeping them at the low-life, piece of shit level they belong.”

Nakia brought his hands around the man’s wrists, and I heard crunching noises when his grips tightened. The man wailed out in pain, his long, silver hair falling over his shoulders and he flexed hard against Nakia’s bone-crushing grips.

“That’ll be enough, Nakia Carnsworth,” a man’s voice boomed.

The vision shifted rapidly to Nakia, Zane, and Bren sitting in a room that resembled a dining hall, and it was decorated with ornate iron and wood. They were at a long table, surrounded by boys and girls wearing a type of uniform. The guys wore all white, button-down shirts, sleeves rolled up to their elbows, and black slacks. Zane reached across the table to where Nakia sat facing him and Bren, only to have his hand violently shoved away by Nakia.

“Jesus,” Zane said. “I just want to know if he got you with the knife.”

“I’m killing the mother fucker,” Nakia snapped. “We need to get the fuck out of this place tonight.”

“You know no pack will take us in,” Bren said. “We’re orphans. Our own parents didn’t want us when they saw what we are, what makes you think anyone else wants us? That’s why we got dropped here in the first place.”

Zane took a bite of some disgusting-looking soup. “That fucker is next on my hit list too.”

“Thatfucker,” Bren added, “is the reason you didn’t die in that alley. Remember that. Does he have to clean house on some shit? Yes, but he doesn’t deserve to die for saving our lives.”

Nakia rubbed under his neck.

“Son of a bitch,” Zane snarled. “He nicked you with that fucking knife! Tonight he dies, and tonight we leave. We’ll find a pack. We have to get the hell out of here. They’ll blame Nakia after that shithead taunted him and think he did it. This place is a hell hole for shifters like us.”

“I said, I’m taking him out. Then we get the hell out of here,” Nakia seethed.

“Fine. I’ll work on the escape plan, and we’re most likely swimming through everyone’s shit in the sewers to get out of here.”

“We’ve been swimming in everyone’s shit since we got here, Zane,” Bren said. “Tonight, we’re out.”

My eyes snapped open and back in real time when Nakia’s fangs released my neck. His eyes were bright and appearance flawless, just like the rest that juiced up on this blood in my veins.

“Shit.” He exhaled. “Damn, you—”

I silenced him, ignoring Braden and Zac standing guard to each side of Nakia. I took the handsome man’s face into my hands and locked eyes with him. “Did you kill him?” I asked.

Nakia’s eyes widened. “What the hell are you talking about?”

“Henry.” I ran my finger over a bump just under his strong jawline, “Did you kill that bastard for what he did to you?”

Nakia’s hand caught mine. “He disappeared,” Nakia said in a disillusioned voice. “How do you know about that? Were you inside my head?” He glanced over to Edgar, “How the fuck did she get into my mind?”

“Listen, asshole,” I snapped back at his tone of disgust, “I don’t know how that happened, but it did. I saw that jerk taunt you like I was there at the school with you, Bren, and Zane.”

“You’ve bonded,” Edgar said in surprise. “I have no idea how you managed that without the sexual side of the bonding, but it happened.”

“Are you mad?” I asked Nakia’s shocked expression.

His tight eyes relaxed and a more loving smile than I could have ever imagined the shifter to have within him spread across his lips. “There’s no other female I would want to be mated to—bonded with—whatever the fuck just went down, than you. You are my moon.”

“Your moon?” I asked with a smile.

“My reason for existence. Without the moon, the wolf has no direction, no purpose. You are the moon to my wolf.”

Sounded corny, but somehow it resonated with me. I felt his attachment, loyalty, and undying love pouring off of him and feeding the bond that was slowly starting to develop between me, my vamps, and the wolves.

Nakia’s eyes grew wild, and he approached me, cupping my face in his hands. “When I prove what you mean to me, you won’t forget it. Iwillthank you by licking every part of your body that called to me while I drank from you. I will fuck you in ways that will make you climb the walls begging for me to give you more. I promise this is just the beginning, Elle.”

“Enough of the devotion ceremony, wolf,” Logan rolled his eyes. “Zac and Braden need to finish defusing our little bomb of a fucking awesome queen so we can get her ready, track down a witch, and fuck that creep show up.”

I glared at Logan in defense of Nakia. “Don’t insult him. In fact,” I looked at all of my vampires, “we’re all in this together, don’t call them dogs or make any other masculine bullshit comments like that anymore. We’re bonded as a fucking family now.”
