Lucas gripped his head and shook it. “This is such a fucking disaster. I don’t even know where to start.” His eyes—judgy-ass eyes—went back to me. “I’m glad you’re doing well, but you all seriously fucked up. The fucking witch that this hack shaman is detecting is Edgar, so that rules him out on how great of a help he’ll be when she really does show up to kill the kid and alpha who got her pregnant.”
“We know that’s a problem,” Cole snarled. “Are you in or out on helping, Luke?”
“Obviously, we’re in.” He eyed Zane’s wolf that bared its teeth at him and then back to Cole. “This alpha wolf fucked up as pack leader, though. And would someone like to explain to me how the fuckingShifted—thedead—managed to be conjured up? As if we didn’t have enough problems, you’re just bringing myths to life now?”
Okay, so Lucas was obviously pissed at all of us, and I had no damn answers. I couldn’t blame him for his anger though, it really did seem that all of us had been following base instincts for too long, and it was just getting us into more and more trouble. Luckily, Zane shifted into his human form again, prompting, Nakia, Bren, and Jen to follow.
Lucas rubbed his forehead. “I’m not in the mood to stare at cocks right now, thank you very much. Get some fucking clothes on, and we’ll talk.”
“Guys, get dressed,” I said before Zane could pop off on a pissed off Lucas.
The shifters left the room, and Edgar stared at Cole with annoyance. “You’re a goddamn alpha, man. How the hell did you let this shit get out of control?”
“Maybe the fact that you all had a witch hunting you down forced us into desperate measures. We saw an opportunity for more power to kick that witches ass, and we fucking took it.”
“You sure as hell did.” He sighed, “And now Elle—the one who’s new to this supernatural life,” he pinched his lips and shook his head, “and the one who obviously has no problem accepting anything fate throws her way—is your fucking alpha. She’s not ready for this kind of power, and you all know it.”
Zac’s hand was around Lucas’s throat, crashing him into the wall across the room before we could speak. “Shut your fucking mouth! You can talk shit about us screwing things up all day long, leave her out of it.”
“Put him down, Zac,” I said folding my arms. “All right, I get it. We messed up. How do we fix it? Are you only here to tell us about the shit we have to deal with, or do you have a damn solution?”
Lucas’s eyes wandered past me, and he shot Zac awe’ll finish this laterkind of look as the shifters walked back into the room.
Zane was shirtless in a pair of Levi’s, and I kept my mind focused on his lethal expression instead of his tempting, sexy back muscles.
“You’re right,” he said through his teeth. “I fucked up as this pack’s alpha. I allowed another alpha to live and remain in the pack out of empathy for his situation. It bit me in the fucking ass. Can’t take it back, but I did fucking end up killing him in the end.”
Lucas’s eyes narrowed in on Jen, “Seems like your empathy for that alpha is still your weakness. The male’s offspring is standing in this room next to your alpha queen, and you know her intentions. She hates Elle, why is she still alive?”
I swallowed hard when all of my vampires shared the same curious expressions as they waited for Zane’s answer. “My alpha hasn’t ordered her death, or she would be dead.”
“You wait for a cluelesscreated alphato give you instructions?” Edgar finally spoke. “The alpha’s offspring will turn just as her sire did.”
“I haven’t had a damn chance to think since Jon fucking turned on my pack. Jen’s shown no signs of doing the same.”
“Fuck that!” Logan spoke up. “That bitch has been nothing but a whining piece of shit since she lost her guys to Elle, you know that too.”
Zane turned back to me. “Say the word, and I end her.”
His eyes begged me to give him the command.
“I already told you, you know how to run your pack. I’ve already given you that power, Zane.”
“Please, God, don’t,” Jen’s eyes widened when Zane looked over at her. “Elle, don’t let him kill me.”
Goddamnit. I can’t deal with this shit.
“No, you can’t,” Edgar said, reading my thoughts. “You all made a grave mistake letting her become your alpha.”
“Didn’t have a fucking choice, you dark-magic bastard!” Cole snapped.
“You did. You just couldn’t control yourselves,” Lucas came back in. “Damn it!” he roared in frustration. “You know a wolf can’t defeat a fucking vampire, and you knew with Elle feeding on these assholes, it’d be hard to shut shit down. Obviously, it was because the fates shifted when your bond of the alphas hit us like a damn freight train.”
“What do we do now?” I asked. “Answers, solutions—not problems. What the fuck do we do?”
“You have to give it up,” Lucas answered me. “These alphas have to be released of your hold over them. Thank fucking God Enzo seems too busy fucking your mom to notice that you and your alphas are so juiced up so fucking high that you could wipe out an entire country with the snap of your fingers if you actually harnessed your power.”
“The merge is what they needed,” Shane finally spoke up to defend himself.
