“Focus on saving Cole,” he said. “Your body should be able to do this.”
I went deep into my thoughts and wished my ancestor would pop up any time now and start digging out the life-blood side of me. She wasn’t there, and neither was any other sensation.
“You have to go deeper. You’re on the surface of your mental state, I can sense it.” Zane’s voice was urgent. “Not wanting to rush you, but if you can’t do this, he’ll be gone. He could slip into a state where he won’t sense your blood and be able to feed at any time.”
Fuck!We couldn’t bring him back like we did Braden. We were in some isolated cabin in the woods, and I was Cole’s only hope.
I walked to where Cole lay collapsed on the futon and brought my lips to his soft, cold skin. He softly moaned in response, letting me know he was still hanging on. “I’m trying, Cole,” I mumbled, holding back tears.
“Focus on your love for him,” Zane said softly. “Focus on being with him.”
I did. The stubborn, yet loving vampire that we all practically had to beat over the head to get him to drink from me and seal our bond. The adorable expressions that played on his lips when he tried not to laugh at one of the guys who was acting like a dumbass while he was concentrating. The way he wore a mask of an asshole when he was the most loving one out of the group. I couldn’t lose him.
My mind drifted to the last time we were together alone. The vampires and I always threw the wordsfucking each otheraround, but being with Cole when the shifters first came was far from us just fucking. It was a love I’d never felt from my vampires, it was powerful, consuming, and it was sealing who we all were together as one unit. In a way, it was a farewell to our bond as the one girl with four vampires and opening me up to a life that awaited me with the three wolves we’d merge with.
Cole ensured I was ready and made me feel like the most essential living thing in his world when we were together without the other either giving or taking blood.
I felt a swirl of energy awaken deep inside me. I let out a breath when the energy overwhelmed me, and I felt my old self again. Cole’s lips twitched when I glanced at his perfect face. I knew this was it. I leaned over and kissed him, and hung onto his bottom lip with mine. His mouth opened and he sucked in a breath.
“That’s it, baby,” I said, running my hands through his hair and bringing my neck to his open lips, praying that his fangs would sense the life-blood he needed.
My head was suddenly gripped in an arm lock, and two fangs entered my neck—deep in my neck. I didn’t have time to scream from being startled by the rough, brisk act before Cole started feeding and my body rejoiced at my vampire getting the healing blood he needed.
“Holy shit,” I said, feeling more worked up with him feeding on me than when I had fed on Zane. “Baby, I’ve missed this.”
Cole’s hand came out and ran over my ass in response to me. The sound of feet shuffling in the back of this cabin brought my attention back to Zane.
Cole released my neck with a gasp, but before he let me go, his loving green eyes met mine with a brightness I thought I might never see again. “Goddamn, you're hot,” he said with a flirty grin. “You okay, doll face?”
“Yes,” I knelt before him now sitting up on the futon. “Thank God that worked.”
“I think we have Zane to thank.” He caressed my forehead, “Where is that wolf?”
“Right here,” Zane said, coming out of another door with a pair of basketball shorts on. His hand reached down and unapologetically rearranged the one body part that didn’t seem to want to submit to the alpha wolf.
I heard Cole faintly laugh, “Thanks for helping her—us.”
“We’re all merged,” Zane said, his eyes practically undressing me and fucking me with their stare alone. “If we lose any of us before the bond is sealed, it could have some nasty consequences.”
I stood up and walked over to the uneasy wolf with the disobedient cock, “I owe you for all of this.”
I smiled, and his eyes sparkled with excitement before he pulled my hand away from his shorts. “Another time, maybe,” he said. “Right now, I have to hope Shane is working on a way to bring us back.”
“Where the hell are we?” Cole said, standing up.
“In the middle of hell, if you ask me,” Zane answered, looking directly into my eyes. “All I want to do is answer what your feeding did to me, and the scent your body put off for me to fuck you and pleasure you in every way I know how.”
“That’s the vampire in our girl,” Cole answered. “You will be fighting that feeling like Nakia has been until she does let you in.” I looked back at Cole in shock that I actually somehow managed to torture the wolf who challenged me earlier. His expression was unapologetic when he shrugged, “Sorry, doll face, it’s the truth.” He looked at Zane, “Although, I think it’s worse with him since you fed and he picked up on you wanting more than just his blood to heal you and me. That would be the bond calling.”
“This is fucking fantastic,” I said in disbelief. “Where exactly are we, though, and what the fuck were those things that Jon conjured up?”
“We’re in an enchanted cabin that Shane sent us away to. He won’t be able to pull us back until the enchantment fades, which is probably a good thing because I’m hoping those Shifted bastards are taken care of by your guys and the pack by the time we get back.”
“TheShifted?” I said as I looked at Zane. “Is that what you were telling me about? The biggest concern for the shifters?”
“The very same,” he said seriously.
“The Shifted were nothing but mythological folklores until about an hour ago,” Cole said. “I never thought that shit was real. Never in our entire lifetime had we encountered one or anyone who may have crossed them. Just fucking stories.”
