“Will it?” My eyebrows shot up, “Because there were still some vamps hanging onto their bitterness that I took the most prized vampires off the market when I stepped into this life. Now, I’ve landed three powerful wolves, the most important one being their alpha. You sure this shit is going to fly when the rest of your pack gets here and they all find out about this merge and how you answer to me now?”

“Don’t worry about any of that.” Bren walked in with Logan and Zac flanking his sides. “We’ll handle anyone’s bitching. The pack wants what’s best for their alpha, and you’re what’s best for him and what’s best for us.”

“Fantastic,” I said, being pulled into Logan’s arms.

“Why are you crying?” he asked.

Goddamnit, again!I wiped my eyes briskly, “I’m just dealing with the fact that Jen isn’t Jen anymore. She’s pissed about all of this, and there’s nothing I can do about. For all I know, she ran off and is howling our location to local wolves and revealing our hideout.”

“Get on that shit right now!” Cole ordered Zane. “We can’t have anything getting out because you have a rogue pack member.”

“I don’t take orders from you vamps,” Zane snarled, and then the room went into a masculine standoff.

“Oh, for fuck’s sake,” I said. “Zane, handle her. Cole’s right, if she gives our location away, we’re fucked!” Zane went to leave, and I stopped him. “Seriously, I’m not a pack leader—you are. I’m going to need your alpha-wolf senses in making sure shit doesn’t get out of control with the pack. You and I both know Jen is just one girl who is bitter and brokenhearted. God knows what the rest will think when they get here. You have to keep them under an alpha command or some shit like that.”

“You got it.” He pulled off his shirt. “Guys, let’s get the hell out of here and go deal with Jen.” He looked at Jon, “You’re coming too. Part of this shit is going down because both of you haven’t properly grieved Marsha’s death. I can’t have our former alpha and his daughter be our biggest weakness. Not now—not ever.”

The wolves all left, and I collapsed into Logan who had an arm wrapped around my waist. He scooped me up into his arms and kissed my forehead.

“We’ve got you, baby,” he said.

I laughed and clung to Logan’s neck, “God, can’t this shit just go away.”

“It’ll be fine once things settle down. Jen will come around, or she’ll have to be locked up until we’re done with this witch and Enzo,” Cole said.

“Which could be a long damn time, so she better shut her fucking mouth. We can’t afford to have a bitch go rogue on us, period.”

“I want to go soak in a bath,” I said. I needed to clear my mind, and I needed to let go of Jen and stop looking back into my past with her. If I wasn’t careful, my soft spot for her could lead to the undoing of all of us. I needed a break from all of the chaos right now.

Zac won the coin toss of who got to accompany me to the bath, so I got the pleasure of him washing my hair, my back, and other parts his hands enjoyed lingering at. The damn vampire had me so turned on by the time I was ready to get out of the tub, I actually pulled him in with me. Our hard and loud sex was definitely the stress relieving remedy I needed.

Chapter Sixteen

The four vampires and I were all relaxed on my oversized bed. I was squished between Logan and Braden while Cole and Zac sat more alertly watching the show I hadn’t been paying attention to.

I tried my hardest to relish in this alone time together with my vampires, but it wasn’t working. It felt like we were being assholes and avoiding new friends. It was more than avoiding new friends, it was this merge and this supernatural pull to the wolves that was screwing with my mind.

My human side wanted a break from all of this overwhelming crap. Scratch that. My human side would have changed her name and got the hell out of this whole situation as fast as she could before she stroked out with not four but now seven guys to have as her own. This wasn’t only unheard of inhuman Elle’smind, it was impossible.

I had to stop thinking like this and do exactly what I told everyone to do before the merge ritual. We needed to remain focused on the ultimate goal, and honestly, the fact that we were lucky that these wolves wanted to do this. It seemed I had Jon to thank for this. Jen’s freaking dad. God, even her name rattled my nerves right now. Wasn’t she supposed to be a badass wolf shifter and not a grade school, jealous brat?

She definitely wasn’t the same Jen anymore, and even though it was perfectly clear that our entire friendship was fake, my mind didn’t want to let any of it go. Although, her current bitch mode was making it very easy not to want to rekindle a new supernatural friendship.

A knock rattled the door and had Zac and Cole up in a blur. Cole got it, and while I was expecting it to be one of the wolves or dare I say, Jen, it wasn’t. Jon stepped through and past my two shirtless, flawlessly beautiful vampires, and his eyes fell on me. Braden’s arm slipped over my shoulder, pulling me into his side.

“What’s up, Jon?” I asked.

“You up for a walk?” he said in a sad voice.

“You up for a walk with Elle and four vamps?” Logan shot back.

“Don’t be a dick.” I eyed Logan, “We’ve got to eventually get along so all of this can work.”

“That’s why I’m here,” Jon said. “I know things have been awkward since we’ve been here, and the way Jen is behaving has embarrassed me as her father. I just wanted some time alone with you so talk.”

I scooted out of Braden’s embrace and off the bed. “Guys, I’ll be back in a bit.” I looked at Jon, “A walk and a talk sound nice. I think I actually need it because if one more crazy ass thing presents itself to me, I might need a damn therapist.”

Jon’s forehead crinkled in humor while Cole and Zac’s eyes followed me as I grabbed a hoodie. “We’ll come looking for her if she’s not back in at least an hour.”
