I tried to summon the power that I had somehow manifested before, but I couldn’t, my energy was zapped.

“You won’t hurt her. You need her,” Cole said, trying to reason with the crazed woman.

“You think I would hesitate to kill her? If I don’t get the children I want, he life is pointless to me anyway,” she said desperately.

“Fine,” Cole continued. “If it’s children you want, it’s children you will get. No one needs to die. You don’t need to do any of this.”

“You think I’m a fool, don’t you, immortal?” she said with a laugh. “I’m centuries older than you. You aren’t the first immortal to lie to my face.”

“Keep fighting, Elle.”I heard Morgana’s voice resonate in my head.“You can break through.”

I focused all of my energy again, fighting as hard as could against the witch, trying to tap into whatever I did before. I could feel the power start to bubble up, but it would fizzle quickly as my stamina wore off more and more.

“If you don’t put her down right now, I will fucking kill you,” Braden seethed.

“Don’t be such a brute,” she scoffed. “I will get what I want from her. There’s nothing you can do about that. Until then,” she said as she took her hand off of my forehead and manifested a fiery-looking ball of energy in the palm of her hand, “enjoy this!”

She shoved the energy ball into my chest, pulled something from around her neck and threw it on the ground, crushing it under her heel and disappearing in a flash of light.

I fell to the ground, gasping for air. My chest felt like it was on fire as I fought for oxygen. My vampires rushed toward me, Zac cradling my head as I struggled to breathe until everything eventually faded to black.
