“Logan, don’t hurt him,” I called out with sympathy.
Logan’s dark eyes fell on me, forcing a shiver of fear to jolt up my spine. “Close your eyes if you don’t want to see it then,” he growled. “Now,” he brought his attention back to the kid vamp, “Jacques is a pretty common name for our little vampire community down here. Where’s your fucking nest?”
“We’re from the Albertus coven,” the kid tapped at Logan’s arm. “I swear we don’t want any trouble. We just found her, that’s all.”
“I want you to run home to your sire and tell them if they keep feeding off the tourists, we’ll hunt down every last one of you.”
Logan turned the kid loose, and the vampire kid made the grave mistake of turning back with a wooden stake that he found lying on a pile of crates next to him. When he thrust it into Logan’s heart, Logan’s eyes widened, and I screamed, but it was cut short when Logan pulled out the plank.
“Well, you’re even more fucking stupid than you look,” he said, stalking toward the kid.
“How…how did you survive that?” he stumbled backward.
“I guess you’ll never know,” Logan growled, driving the stake into the kid’s heart. “Stupid little bastard,” Logan said. I could tell he was pissed he had to kill him.
“Why did the stake kill the boy and not you?” I asked, forcing myself out of Logan’s embrace.
“He’s a turned human,” Logan answered. “That’s why.”
I should’ve remembered that. All I could think of right now was that I was in a vampire standoff, and my guys just saved me.
“Come on,” Zac ordered, running up to us. “The other asshole is back there dead. We need to clean this shit up and get Elle out of here.”
“I’ll get the Jeep,” Logan said, snatching my hand. “You’re with me.”
It wasn’t a suggestion. It was a command. Logan and Zac both were pissed, and I didn’t know how bad off we were since they just took out three of who knew how many vampires in a local coven.
All I could think of as Logan rushed us through back alleys was that this was most likely going to lead to another relocation and house arrest for me. Could anything go right or be normal? Of course not. I was living with four vampires, and we were on the run.
