Chapter One
While Zac was in the cockpit to land the private jet, I had plenty of time to contemplate how drastically my life had changed since meeting him and his cousins. I had to focus on that to keep my thoughts off of wanting to jump Zac’s bones. He and I started something I was aching to finish.
Focus on something other than screwing him, Elle.
I got up from the couch, sat in the leather chair on the other side of the plane, and gazed out of the window through the low clouds as we descended. After what I’d seen when Enzo’s minions showed up, I knew I couldn’t go back to rationalizing everything. I wasn’t going backward, I was moving forward now. I accepted the fate that was given to me and my four vampires, and I wasn’t going to fight any of it.
I did feel the deeper connection between the Banners and me, and in accepting it, I felt like I finally had a real purpose in my life. I felt more complete. It was like a void I never knew existed was slowly being filled. I wouldn’t let the human side of me interfere with the newly-tapped, supernatural side of me.
Of course, I was still human, and I had human emotions. I thought of my mom, knowing she was being held captive by that psycho, Enzo. Finding out the real reason she’d been a black-out drunk for as long as I could remember made my heart hurt. All these years I thought she was selfishly ruining her life, but in reality, she was doing it to keep me and her safe. She was doing it to cover the potency of her blood.
Our lifeblood was what Enzo needed to dominate the world and bring his evil vampire minions to take over the human race.Shit!I hoped that none of the cronies who showed up and abducted me had told Enzo that my mother had a child. The last thing I needed was him knowing I was the last remaining Life Blood who was not under his control.
I knew that once my foursuper vampsand I managed to seal our bond like we were destined to do, we were going to rescue my mother and get rid of Enzo once and for all.
The plane touched down at a secluded airstrip surrounded by a thick forest of tall pine trees, and I contemplated jumping Zac as soon as he walked out of the cockpit.
“Damn,” I said, eyeing the blonde haired, bronze-eyed, robust vampire as he strutted out of the cockpit. “I know we’re probably in a rush to get to that hideout, but—”
I was silenced when Zac took me into his muscular arms and brought his smooth lips down onto mine. His tongue forced my lips open, and I exhaled in pleasure as our kiss deepened. Zac’s hand slid over my ass, gripping it and pulling me into his hardness.Yes.He was definitely taking me to that back room, and this time, we would finish what we started when he fed on me to gain the strength he needed to take the plane back from those shapeshifting vamps.
I ran my hand under his shirt, feeling the rigid muscles of his back, and I groaned while continuing to taste his delicious kiss. Much to my dissatisfaction, Zac ended the kiss with a sexy smirk. Damn these vampires and their cocky, sexy grins. I was throbbing for him, and it was obvious he knew it, but he was about to make me suffer and wait.
“Baby,” he said tilting my chin up to meet his brilliant eyes, “you know I want to take you back to that bed and give you the fuck of your lifetime, but I really need to get you up to the house.”
I exhaled raggedly. “We’re still on the run, then?”
“I just want you safe. If any of Enzo’s assholes saw this plane, there’s a possibility they can track us. Lucas called me while I was landing the plane and said there are some pilots here who are going to get this jet back to Oregon. If anything, we need them to think we brought you there. We’re not taking chances.”
“Have you heard from the guys?” I asked, getting my hormones under control.
“The guys are fine. They’ve already confirmed that Lucas’s hideout is safe, and there are no traces of vamps anywhere. Now, let’s get in the car, and get the hell out of here.”
“All right. Let’s go.”
We were in an expensive sports car, blasting out of the airport area at top speed in no time flat. I was too busy bracing myself in the car to have a conversation with Zac until he finally slowed and turned onto a private, tree-lined road.
“Question,” I said.
“Go,” Zac said, one hand on the steering wheel as the other shifted gears.
“Are you feeling possessive of me like Logan did after he fed on me and we had sex?”
His eyes slid to me, then back to the road. “I’m fighting off those urges,” he said. “It’s not easy, but my cousins and I decided that if we couldn’t get the spell to keep us from going into a frenzy after drinking from you, we’d have to learn to control it ourselves.”
“How are you controlling it?”
“Easy. We almost lost you to Enzo, and if it weren’t for Braden and Logan having your blood in their system before you ran off, we would have never found you. I’m more focused on the importance of keeping you safe than telling my cousins to fuck off just so I can be a greedy bastard and keep you to myself.”
“Do you think the others will be able to control it like you?”
Zac laughed. “They wish they were as badass as I am.” He glanced over and winked. “If they don’t trust themselves, they won’t drink your blood. I won’t lie, I questioned whether or not I would hurt you, what my reaction would be, and what the hell could have happened if I didn’t keep it in control before I fed on you.”
“You had to. You all have to. We have to find a way around this and seal the bond.”
Zac brought the car to a stop on the one-lane, private road. He shifted and ran his hand over my auburn hair. “It makes me happy to hear you talk like that,” he said with a smile. “Just understand that my cousins and I are all different. It’s going to take time. The witch doctor who was supposed to do a spell on us to remove the urge to kill each other after feeding on you never showed up. Asshole was probably lying anyway. We just have to slowly ease into this with you.”
“I understand that if you fight over me and my blood, it weakens the bond you four have, but I think if you can do it, the others can too.”
