“Well, if my wardens let me off of house arrest, we can go now.”
“Fine,” Cole said reluctantly. “Go out and have fun. Maybe getting away for a while will do you some good.”
“She’s not going anywhere unless one of us is there,” Logan said.
My heart and body reacted to the sound of his smooth voice.Damn blood sucking connection. Ever since I let the bastard drink from me, all I did was fight off the urge to beg him to head back to my room with me every night. Logan’s eyes did what they always did, capture my mind, body, and soul. I needed to get out of this house.
“Let her go,” Braden said in his alpha-vampire voice.
I turned and smiled at him even though his face showed disapproval. Usually, when Braden spoke up like this, he shut them all up, and there was no arguing. At least, not in front of me.
“Well, it’s settled, then.”
“Take this phone,” Braden offered me a rose gold iPhone.
“Good God,” Val spoke up after watching the whole charade play out. “Just let her fucking go out for a day.”
“Just get out of here, and check in once in a while.”
“Don’t have to tell us twice,” Val said, hooking her arm through mine. “Come on before they change their mind.”
“My God,” I sighed. “This whole thing is driving me insane.”
We were packed and ready to head out in Val’s convertible in less than thirty minutes. She peeled out of the driveway, and I felt like I was breaking out of prison.
At the end of the driveway, she stopped the car. “Now, what’s the real plan? Wanna go see your mom?” she smiled.
“Do you really think that’s a good idea? What if the guys are right?”
“You’re with me. I might not be a super vamp, but I promise you I will keep you safe. It’s up to you, but I wouldn’t offer if I thought it might be dangerous,” she said as she shrugged her shoulders.
“I really do want to see her,” I said.
She took my phone tossed it into the bushes and smiled before rocketing us onto the highway. “We can’t have them tracking you if we’re going to ignore their little safety measures.” She dipped her head, pulled out her phone, made a few clicks on an app, and locked the phone. “I booked a private jet. Let’s hit the airport before your boyfriends catch on.”
We got to the airstrip in record time, and even as the plane hit the runway, Val’s phone still hadn’t rung. They were leaving us alone, and my guilt for deceiving them started to creep up more and more. I just had to put my faith in Val that she could get us there and back safely, and hopefully, they wouldn’t be too harsh with either of us when we got back.
Chapter Twenty-Six
Thank God I didn’t have a fear of flying because the turbulence that this jet took on was enough to make me want to find a parachute. I knew there was a storm sitting off the Pacific Coast, but good grief, this poor plane felt like its wings were gonna be ripped off.
Val and I were off the plane in a flash. A rental car was waiting for us in the parking garage, and she had us out of there in record time.
“Good lord, Val,” I said as she slammed on the gas, bringing us zero to sixty in under five seconds, “You act like the airport’s on fire.”
She smirked, “I love this Southern California weather, don’t you? I’m ready to go to the beach.”
“Can you drop me by the wellness facility first before you go improve your tan?”
“In case you forgot,” she arched a brow at me, “four super vamps are no doubt furiously trying to find us. You think I’m going to leave you alone? I don’t havethatmuch of a death wish. At this point, I’m just praying they’ll have mercy on me for doing this.”
“I really appreciate this, Val. I know it’s a risk for you. I guess that means we need to make this trip as quick as possible,” I said. “How much longer?”
“GPS says ten minutes,” she pointed at the widescreen display in the dash. “You ready for this with your mom? This really is a mistake, bringing her back into your life like this, you know.”
“How so?” I asked, annoyed that she would have the nerve to say such a thing. “All I’ve wanted for as long as I can remember is for my mom to get sober. She’s been a drunk for as long as I can remember. I think it would be nice to have a shot at a normal life with her for once.”
Val looked over at me like I had three heads. “Normal? It won’t be normal. At all. Ever again. Your mom is going to come out of this thing wanting to catch up after all these years, and what then? You gonna tell her that your four new boyfriends are vampires?”
