Jackson shook his head and laughed, his eyes met mine again, “That’s none of your business,Ellie,” he said with another laugh.

All I had was adrenaline on my side right now, and after this, I’d be the first in line to sign up at the martial arts class for self-defense. My fight or flight mechanism had me paralyzed and at the mercy of what these jerks were planning.

“Don’t,” I pleaded softly, hating that I was scared out of my mind and that my body wouldn’t react appropriately to defend itself against these tweaked out pricks.

I felt Jackson’s lips press onto mine, his tongue trying to pry my pinched lips open. I gained some strength and wedged my arms in between us. As hard as I pushed, the star quarterback wasn’t budging. In fact, all I did was spur the asshole on.

The sound of a motorcycle roaring down the street gave me a moment to react. The distraction caused Jackson to turn, and I used it to my advantage. I brought my knee up, but unfortunately, Jackson was too quick for my impulsive decision to knee him in the balls.

Jackson’s eyes were fierce, staring into mine while I heard the loud motorcycle screech to a halt. “Get your fucking hands off of her,” a male’s voice boomed.

Jackson released me, and I was so shaken I couldn’t feel my own legs. I tried to run away, but they gave out, and I fell to my knees.Damn it!As I sat there trying to recover, I scanned the area for the fastest way out. That’s when I saw some guy half a head taller than Jackson approach the four jocks who were all grouped up trying to look intimidating.

“This is none of your business,” Jackson warned the guy.

“Really?” the guy who saved me from whatever Jackson was planning answered. “You’re fucking with a girl who’s out here by herself—”

My savior’s response to Jackson was cut off when Paul lunged out and swung at him. Effortlessly, the guy stepped back, caught his arm with one hand, and used the other to lay Paul completely out. He moved so quickly, I wondered if my eyesight was jacked up because I could swear it was all a blur when Jase went after him next. Unexpectedly, Jase was on the ground holding his stomach, writhing in pain.

Jackson stepped forward, but Luke stretched out his hand and stopped him. “Let’s just get out of here, man!”

Jackson looked back at me. “Her stupid ass isn’t worth it anyway,” he snarled.

“Listen to your friend and get out of here while you still can,” the guy said.

I scooted back against the fence when I watched his eyes flash strangely. What the hell was that?

Jackson and Luke, the only ones still standing, went to scatter toward their car, when the tall, dark-haired stranger caught Jackson by the collar of his shirt, “You might want to get your piece of shit friends out of here too.”

Jackson was oddly quiet as I watched him and Luke exchange fearful glances. They quickly reached for Paul who was starting to rouse, and Jase who was now whimpering.

“What the hell just happened?” Paul asked.

“Get up, we’re leaving,” Jackson ordered the two still on the ground.

The jocks didn’t look back even as they hurled themselves into the car and sped off.

My breathing and heart rate picked up. Now, I was alone with some stranger.

Shit!

“You okay?” he asked, noticing that I was backed entirely against the fence.

I didn’t answer. What the hell happened to adrenaline helping to save your life? Apparently, mine didn’t work that way.

“Please,” I held up my hand. “Don’t come any closer, I’m fine.”

He knelt down, stopping a few feet from me, “No, you’re not,” he said. “It’s dark, and you almost got jumped by four guys twice your size.”

“I can take care of myself,” I lied, debating how trustworthy this stranger really was.

He smirked. “Sure you can.”

Our eyes locked, and suddenly, I felt an unexplainable energy wash over me. I didn’t question it, I wanted out of here.

“Thanks anyway,” I said as I tried getting up.

My legs apparently weren’t ready for the act. The guy caught my hand and waist before I could face plant right in front of him.
