He smiled at me and then looked at Logan in question, “What are you doing? I asked you to make her comfortable, not scare the shit out of her!”
Logan turned and squared up to Braden. Logan was well-built, but Braden…well, it was obvious what Logan meant earlier when he told me not to underestimate his cousin. Braden looked like anything but a sweetheart right now.
“You asked me to fill her in, how the hell did you expect me to do that?” Anger was plastered on Logan’s face, “It’s best that she learns everything about us and quick.”
“She will.” Braden’s eyes narrowed on Logan, “But dumping this on her isn’t going to make it any easier for her. You’re going to scare her off, and then what?”
“Guys!” I interrupted them, Boots scurrying off my lap and running to rub himself against Braden’s legs. “I’m okay. Maybe a little confused,” I rubbed my palm over my forehead and through my hair, “or a lot confused, actually,” I laughed. “At least from what I’ve gathered, you are the good guys.”
I felt that calm wave of energy wash over me, and both of the guys seemed to react to it as well.
What the hell.
“It’s happening again,” Logan whispered.
Braden’s expression was overwhelmingly sexy as he studied me, “My God.” He exhaled. “Elle, whatever is connecting all of us…” he licked his lips, “Whatever hold you have on us is incredible, and it’s something we could have used all our lives.”
“What am I doing?” I asked with a smile.
“One minute I’m ready to rip Logan’s head off, the next, you speak, and suddenly it’s like a calmness hits us like a ton of bricks. We don’t tend to resolve our differences without physical contact…I mean, we really beat the hell out of each other. You diffused us like a bomb.”
Both of their eyes held me hostage. My heart couldn’t help but react, and now my calm mind went toward other thoughts. Thoughts like kissing Braden. Feeling him touch me.
“Okay!” Logan rubbed his forehead, “Knockthatshit off right now,” he said with a laugh. “I need to get out of here for a few. Ellie-doll,” he planted a firm hand on my shoulder, “Just so you know, we are emotionally picking up on your feelings. When you get horny like you are right now, we know it. Wefeelit.” His lips were at my ear, “Braden can fill you in on how we vampires feel about sex. Fair warning, though? Don’t think about it unless youreallywant it.”
What. The. Fuck!
I must have turned five shades of red as Logan disappeared into the room. Braden picked up Boots, and I watched him ruffle the fur at the back of the cat’s neck as the cat purred loudly in response.
“You’re a monster yourself, Boots,” he said with a laugh. He turned to me, “I’m not filling you in on any immortal sexual habits.” He rolled his eyes playfully, “I will fill you in on what we learned today, though. You hungry?”
“I could eat.” I rose up, feeling more comfortable in Braden’s calmer presence than Logan’s frustrated one. “What do you have to eat around here besides human blood?”
Braden laughed loudly as he let Boots down to the ground. “Human blood?” his lips twisted in amusement, “Shit, can’t Logan give you the basics of our lives before of going into the grand detail of it all?”
“You don’t drink human blood?” I questioned. “Damn, I’m so confused.”
“Not surprising,” he said as he led me through the room and out the door.
“Where are we going?”
“Cole’s an incredible cook,” Braden said, “Let’s have dinner, and then I’ll try to help you put the pieces of our insane lives together.”
Chapter Thirteen
Iwalked into the dining room and saw a bunch of the other vampires seated at the abnormally long table. The smell of steak and seafood wafting through the air made my mouth water.
There were platters of steak, salmon, shrimp, and every side dish I could imagine set in the middle of the table, and everyone was helping themselves to it as they talked amongst themselves.
I grabbed a seat next to Braden, got a piece of steak from the dish in front of me, and scooped some rice onto my plate before digging in. The steak was the perfect amount of red in the center, and it was so tender that I probably didn’t even need a knife to cut it. I couldn’t get enough. I looked around for more food to taste, settling on a crab cake, some veggies, a salad, and a few shrimp. I’d hadn’t eaten this good in…ever.
“Delicious, right?” Braden asked as he leaned over to me. “You might want to come up for air, though. You’re gonna choke if you keep eating that fast.”
I felt a bit embarrassed as I looked around and noticed some of the others looking at me from the sides of their eyes. I must’ve looked like a pig by the way I was piling food onto my plate.
I looked across the table to see perfectly manicured nails delicately spearing a small chunk of lobster meat with a fork before bringing it to her perfectly shaped, glossy red lips.
When my eyes met her glacial stare, I was somewhat startled. Her pitch black hair set off her crystal blue eyes, sharp facial features, and obvious annoyance of the repulsive human sitting across from her.
