I lean forward, pull the scope tight to my eye, and use the crosshairs to line up the cops’ tires.I take a deep breath and pull the trigger. The bullet whizzes out, slamming into the tire and causing the cops to erupt into chaos.I line up the other car, shooting the tire out on it.I know they’ll radio for backup, but it will buy the guys some time.

I turn the scope back toward the club.

The bastard in the suit is still shouting at Wolfe, who stands there with his gun out now, too.The buyer’s hand shakes as he holds his gun, but his eyes never leave the merch bag.Kael and Knox move quickly, loading the merchandise into the buyer’s van. After a second, the buyer nods and one of his guys throws a bag of cash at the club.

Then, they’re out of there.

The guys load into the trucks, dirt spitting as they speed away.

I check the cops again, there are two more cars now, and they’re speeding off down the road.

The guys got out of there with mere seconds to spare.

I move quickly now, packing up the rifle and hurrying down the track where I know they’ll be expecting me.It isn’t long before the trucks skid down the road, coming to a stop.Kael jumps out, slams the door, and walks to me, taking my face in his hands.“You good?”

“I shot their tires out, but two more cars arrived. They are going to be hovering around here; you need to lay low for a few hours.”

The rest of the guys get out, and Wolfe pulls out a cigarette, inhaling deep. His fist is clenched by his sides and I know he’s on edge.“Who the fuck tipped them?”Wolfe’s words slap the air, razor-sharp.“No one outside the circle knew.”

“Don’t know, boss,” Talon mutters, lighting his own cigarette.“But whoever it was, they knew exactly where we would be.”

“You think we got a rat?”Knox growls.

“I don’t fuckin’ know,” Wolfe mutters.“But we’re goin’ to find out.”

Zane nods sharply, then turns to me.“You saved our asses.Appreciate that.”

“You’re welcome,” I say, my voice still shaky.

Wolfe looks up, dropping his cigarette down.“We need to move out of sight. They’ll be crawling this whole mountain in ten.”

“Agreed,” Talon nods.“We split up, take different roads.”

“Keep to the back roads,” Wolfe agrees.“You see any cops, you pull over and cut the engine.Don’t care if you have to sit there for three hours, you don’t get found.”

They all nod in agreement.

I get in the truck with Kael and Zane again, and we take off.

The question lingers heavy in the air though ...

Who sold them out?

“NEED EXTRA EYES ONthe warehouse. If the cops are scopin’ us out, they could follow any of us out there and blow this whole thing up,” Wolfe murmurs, leaning back in his chair with Mera on his lap, lighting a joint.

“I’ll get onto security,” Talon nods, sharply, his hand on Nia’s thigh.“Make sure we are covered out there.”

“Send two guys out—I want extra people on guard,” Wolfe goes on.“Zane and Knox can do first round.Take the prospect.”

I sit next to Kael, his fingers tracing lazy circles on my thigh as we sit around the bar, trying to unwind from the day’s events.Somehow, the cops knew what was going on, and because of that, the club is now on their radar and that means they will be tracking their every move.

It is a big problem.

I can’t help but wonder if Gage was somehow involved, though I’m not certain how the hell he would have known about the drop.Something isn’t adding up.Maybe they’re right, maybe they do have a rat.God knows we have had a few in Gage’s club over the years.More often than not, it’s because they make a deal with the cops.

Do the cops have leverage on someone here?
