“I’ll go to the store,” I said, hating the thought of leaving Odie’s side but Ambry needed as much calories as we could get into him as a nursing carrier.
“Teal can go,” Indigo announced, and I didn’t argue with him.
“Get him away from the house for a bit,” Odie nodded as I handed out the coffees.
“He better not dick around while he’s out,” Indigo frowned. “This isn’t the time to dick around.”
“Besides not liking the guard what did he do to you?” Odie asked him.
“Nothing but he can’t be out there hauling around peaches while my mate waits on him. This can’t work like that. We have to come first at some point.”
“We do,” I said and bit my tongue to keep from thinking too hard about all the ways Teal put the family first and never brought it up. “Hey, maybe he knows someone with fresh cherries or---”
“No, I want the ones in the red sauce,” Ambry chimed back into the conversation.
“The pie filling?” Odie asked.
“No, the ones for drinks. He’ll know which ones, I think. But now I want a pie. Not a cherry pie, though. Pecan pie or walnut brownies or maybe just all the peanut butter cookies in the territory,” Ambry said and licked his lips.
“Those we have,” I said. “They’re not homemade. They’re that brand with the lemon colored dragon on the package and—”
“Give me!” Ambry howled and the baby stirred and rooted around for his nipple. “That sort of tickles.” Ambry shrugged, looking around the room for the cookies.
“I’ll grab them from downstairs,” I said glad to be able to help with something.
“Bring me some of the lemon ones!” Odie called after me.
“Chocolate chip!” Indigo added.
I grabbed a box of each and shoved my pajama pockets full of the bags of gummies just in case. Sure, we probably should get some real food into Ambry but for now this would do. Eventually, I’d make my way over to the house to cook or maybe Teal would when he got back from the store.
“Odie?” Ambry asked as I set the boxes down.
“Yeah? I’m right here,” Odie pushed himself upright.
“Do you want to hold Robin while I eat?” Ambry offered and the smile that spread across my mate’s face melted everything ragey inside me. How could I be mad that everyone was being abit of an ass when Odell smiled like that? This was why Clarence agreed to send a guard. He wanted his mate to smile like that instead of being eaten up with worry.
Chapter Four
Teal
The last thing I wanted to do was crawl out of bed and put pants on to go to the store. I considered sending a text to one of my guys to bring some jarred cherries out to Moonglow but didn’t think Indigo and Cobalt would appreciate me bringing them around their mates right now. So pants it was.
“This is so unnatural,”my dragon grumbled.
“Cherries in jars?”I grunted back to him.
“No! Pants! I don’t want to wear pants! I want to go back to sleep! Don’t do that! Don’t put on a belt! Ugh! No! Sleep! There are babies. This is the time to sleep. If we wake up, we have to deal with Annoying Naked Cat.”
I’d go to the moon and back for my brothers and their mates. I’d fight an army of the living dead for Baby Robin but part of me wanted to headbutt Clarence in the teeth for bringing Ciro here. We had things under control. We had it all worked out and lined out. Hell, we probably had things more under control than he did at our age.
My pants brushed against my balls, and I stopped mid-pull. Of-fucking-course. Hard at the sight of a mostly naked cat man? Ready to fight grandpa and complaining about feeding the baby? Of-fucking-course. Now would be the time I hit a rut. What better time to want to hump everything in sight than right after my first nibling was born?
“Spray before store. I don’t want groped and I don’t want people to run from us. We’ve built a reputation and this---”my dragon looked between his massive legs.“This will make people think we’re Cobalt.”
Spray it was. I managed to get into my pants and grab one of those dancer’s cod pieces they used to hide their junk inside of ballet tights. I couldn’t remember who first taught me the trick, but it worked, and it was enough to keep the world from seeing if I got hard. Fucking rut. Now?
I dug through my drawers until I found a bottle of pheromone blocker spray. Usually, I kept it in the gloveboxes of all my trucks for late night missions, but I wasn’t about to step out of the room without covering up. Ciro was definitely an omega, and I wasn’t going to have his naked ass thinking he was the one who set me off. Anyone who’d willingly take a job where their services weren’t needed wasn’t someone I wanted to screw.
