“I’ve got to go. Tell Ambry I’ll be back with his cherries as soon as I can. If not me, someone else will bring them,” I said, adjusting my seat until it was back in the perfect spot.

“Should I come with you?” he asked.

“No,” I shook my head.

“You’re making it sound dangerous. Medwin would want me—” Ciro started but I shook my head.

“I’ll be seeing Medwin in a few. Actually,” I put the keys back in my pocket and pulled off my shirt as I slid out of the truck. “Flying will be quicker.”

“What’s going on?” Ciro asked again.

“I’m the one with the least to lose,” I shrugged. “I’m the one Clarence can’t execute or lock up. I might be his heir. I’ve got to go. Sorry we couldn’t finish this up. I probably won’t be back anytime soon.”

“What do I tell your brothers?” Ciro asked as I started to give into my dragon’s bulky, scaled form.

“To stay the fuck out of it!” I roared right before I lost my ability for human speech.

Chapter Five

Ciro

My mate flew off into the night sky and my heart broke into a million pieces. I wasn’t sure what was going on. Maybe I shouldn’t disobey a direct order from a client but Medwin hired me and Baby Robin was my charge. Medwin wasn’t here to tell me what to do and Baby Robin probably wanted his uncle to come home whole. So, I gave into my cat and bound across the grass into the tower. I didn’t bother with the lift, taking the winding stairs as many at a time as my long body could make.

“What’s wrong?” Cobalt met me halfway down them with Indigo on his heel.

I shifted back, wanting to cuss them out for leaving Baby Robin and the omegas unguarded. Then I remembered the shadowy murder dog and told them the little I knew.

“Shit!” Indigo turned on his heels and started back up the steps.

“I’ll go,” Cobalt said.

“No, I will,” Indigo roared. “Fucking Teal! He would pick tonight to do shit! The baby---”

“That’s why I said I’ll go.”

“No, you won’t,” Indigo roared at his brother. “Seriously, Co! Teal was the great kid until he started arguing with Grandpa over fruit trees and free food. Now, it’s me because I didn’t have a leak of my dick pics. I’ll go and say it was me. That I told them to do it. I’ll say I flew under the radar while Teal was loud, and you were horny. I threw my weight around and I made them do it. Even if Teal won’t take my help, it’ll work. Medwin won’t stand for someone being punished if there’s a chance they didn’t commit the crime, and they won’t punish me because we just had a baby.”

“I don’t want you to go,” Ambry said, and my heart broke again.

Indigo was right. Fucking Teal.

“This is about the seed bombing, right?” Odie popped into the conversation.

“Yes,” Cobalt and Indigo said in sync.

“Ambry, love,” Indigo crawled into the nest with his mate. “I hate this, and I will kick Teal’s ass for it later but he’s Teal. He’s us. I have to go. I’m the only one who can. I can’t let him lock Teal up or banish him or whatever Clarence plans to do because they fucked with his precious golf courses. Grandpa can be a dick sometimes and I have to save Teal. Cobalt will be here and so will Ciro. You’ll be safe. Guardie’s here too. When I bring Teal home you can bite him or put him on diaper duty for the rest of his life. Whatever you need to feel better.”

Ambry teared up and I almost told them everything. Almost told them how I was trying to figure out if I could fight Medwin Moonscale. I wasn’t too worried about Clarence. He was too cocky. The only concern I had about him was if Medwin backed him up and he’d undoubtedly not let me take down his mate without having a lot to say about it. So, maybe it was better if Indigo saved my mate instead of me. Only I hadn’t even told Teal. I couldn’t tell them. So, I watched Indigo hug and kiss hismate goodbye as Cobalt opened the flight door. A second later, Indigo disappeared from the tower, shifting as he took to the sky.

Ambry clutched Baby Robin to his chest as if bandits would charge in and snatch his baby now that Indigo wasn’t here to protect him. I was shitty. I should’ve gone with Teal. Medwin liked me. If I told Medwin that Teal was my mate maybe he’d cut him some slack.

Cobalt shut the sliding garage-like door and climbed back into the nest with the omegas. He settled down between them and wrapped an arm around both of them. Ambry settled Baby Robin on Cobalt’s chest and stroked his back.

“Coming?” Odie asked me. “No need to stand there like the world is ending all alone.”

“I…”

“Come on,” Ambry said, motioning to me. “Come cuddle. If you’re going to be here you might as well get used to it.”
