Across the room, Teal glanced at his phone and frowned.

“What?” Indigo and I asked him at the same time.

“The Temple of Juda has finished going through Reve’s belongings. Co’s right. Nothing there is possessed or haunted.”

“Duh,” Odie sighed. “Sorry. I just meant it’s still here. It’s just a shame that it doesn’t take a kinder form like a dog or something.”

“We should call Liam and them in to cleanse the house. Are they coming for the feast?” Indigo asked.

“They’re not. Liam’s pregnant again and Starry is hosting some sort of meditation retreat to boost magical ties within different groups. You know, the same old, same old. Uncle Leo and Vex are on some trip to some fox village for a vacation or something too. It’s like the whole coven is busy now that we have something for them to do,” Teal sighed.

“We’re all grown up,” I rolled my eyes.

A soft bark sounded off from inside the half-built nest and we all startled back except for Odie. He scrambled into the nest. I snatched for him but missed him and tumbled in after him.

“What the hell?” Teal said, peering over the edge.

Inside was a tiny dog composed of the same materials as the hand and tendril. Apparently, the murder spirit was taking orders from my mate. It was sort of hot as far as dangerous abilities went.

“Are their shadow witches in your family? Or witches at all?” Indigo asked.

“They’re witches and magic users in everyone’s family. We fought a whole war about it,” Teal sighed.

“Don’t fight,” I frowned, looking from one of them to the other.

“I’m not going to fight him,” Teal frowned back at me. “Seriously, Uncle Nicky wants to banish it. So, if we’re not going to let him, he’s going to want answers.”

“Then the whole coven isn’t busy,” Indigo pointed out.

“I don’t know if there are any witches who can do this in my family. I didn’t kill that lizard, though,” Odell shook his head, rolling onto his back and pulling the shadowy dog onto his belly. I bit the inside of my cheek so that I didn’t tell him not to put the dog there. Logically, it wasn’t safe, but the dog walked in a few circles and then curled up as if it planned to sleep.

“You didn’t kill anyone,” I said, shooting Teal a pointed look.

“Don’t fight,” Indigo chimed in.

“Brothers outside,” I said, pointing to the open landing door.

“Will you be okay?” Indigo asked Ambry.

“We both will,” he nodded and climbed into the half-built nest with Odell.

I hated leaving the omegas alone with the murder spirit but it seemed content with Odell. If he needed a blood thirsty familiar to keep his anxiety away, then I’d box anyone who tried to take it away from him. To hell with logic. Our grandparents asking if we needed people murdered was never a joke. It couldn’t have been because I would’ve murdered anyone for him.

“He didn’t kill anyone,” Indigo said before I had a chance to speak. “Even if that’s his magic, he didn’t do it.”

“It’s fine if he did,” Teal said, leaning one hand against the tower wall. “With the new evidence that’s come to light we know Reve was a predator. You can’t hoard photos that weren’t given to you and sell them off. You can’t watch people have sex without consent. Who knows what else he did?! I’m with you two. Though, figuring out what that thing is should be a high priority. Odell isn’t going to take it well if someone tries to banish it.”

“If they’re going to do that then I just won’t go to the feast. You two can go and take Ambry and Odell and I will stay home with the murder spirit.”

“Don’t call it that,” Teal groaned. “Plus, we’ll figure it out before then. Since we don’t have a better place to start we can either believe Crilus was right and it is a haunted object or we start digging into Odell’s family tree.”

“I don’t think we should poke that particular kraken,” I shook my head. “He’s finally not anxious and if you change that I don’t think my dragon is going to react well. No, scratch that. We all know that my dragon isn’t going to react well.”

“Then we ask him what he has that might be haunted,” Indigo said.

“Can we do that?” Teal asked me.

“We have to be gentle because my dragon is anything but right now. If he likes the murder dog it stays.”
