“Are we wandering or did you have a place in mind?” I asked.

“A bit of both,” he said.

“Who do you think would follow us around out here?” I asked, trying to sound playful but his scent wasn’t settling back down and that put me on edge.

“Journalists and if I find one I’m going to eat him. I’m going to bathe in his blood and snort his bone dust like coke,” he growled.

“Well, if I was a journalist I’d leave. Hey!” I stopped and tugged on his hand. “Do you do coke? Because if you do it affects the pregnancy timeline, you know?! If you’re in active use during the time of conception it could affect the baby and…”

“Mate, I do not do coke. I’ve probably snorted some bone dust before but believe me, if I was on an upper like that you’d know. A dragon on speed isn’t subtle,” he said, trying not to grin.

“Okay,” I let out a long sigh of relief. “The claiming vows would’ve shown me too, probably.”

“Are you on anything I should know about?”

“Anxiety meds but they’re not uppers. I think if I took any upper stronger than caffeine, my heart would break my ribs and they’d have to shock me back into sinus rhythm.”

“That makes me want to keep you away from the coffee pot,” Cobalt teased.

“Only if you want me to eat you. Caffeine is my buddy,” I laughed. “It’s bad enough I’ll have to cut way down when I get pregnant and I won’t be able to sleep on my back or have soft cheese or sushi.”

“Someone’s done their research.”

“Uh…. Every omega I know groaned all through Omega Studies when we had like two weeks of study material on all the stuff growing babies would take away from us. It was this whole thing about how we got the raw end of the deal. Though, the dragons weren’t too mad. In most cases, they get to keep their coffee.”

“You might carry an egg,” he pointed out.

“I think I’ll be stressed out either way.”

“I’ll be there.”

“Yes, because if you try to leave, I’ll use my big pregnant ass to sit on you.”

“You can sit on me whenever you want, pregnant or not,” Cobalt grinned and stole another gummy to slip into my mouth.

We came into a clearing as the sky finished swallowing down the sun. A wicker basket sat in the middle of it and looked like someone had cut the grass recently.

“The caretakers did this?” I asked him. “You haven’t had the time away from me to do this.”

“No, this is a Teal move. Leaving baskets in all the places we might sneak off for time alone,” he smirked. “My brother comes through again. Shall we see what’s in the basket?”

“You don’t think it’s a journalist waiting to jump out like a fox-in-the-box and snap a photo, do you?” I asked, only half teasing.

“I’ll eat him and make him speed-free coke,” Cobalt laughed.

“Let’s go see,” I mock-sighed and tugged him further into the clearing. I started to open the box and thought better of it. What if it was a trap?

“Then he shouldn’t open it either,”my wolf chimed into my thoughts.

“I’ll be fine,” he said, squatting down. “It smells like Teal.”

I sniffed and nodded my approval, then he opened it. Inside was a fluffy red tartan blanket and underneath it nonperishables like cans of nuts, bags of jerky, and sweets. Beside them rested a few sodas and bottles of water. Without speaking, we spread the blanket over the freshly mowed grass and stretched out next to each other after checking for anything sharp.

“You don’t have a grass allergy or anything that I should know about, do you?”

“That would be your deal breaker?” I laughed.

“No, but I won’t have you rolling around dick and ass flapping in the grass if you do,” he said and brought my hand up to his lips to kiss it.
