“Sort of. That and you’re still in your clothes.”
“Because I’m not sure Ambry wants to come in here and find my naked ass in his bed.”
“He probably wouldn’t bat an eye,” I laughed. “Besides, with all the giggling going on out there I don’t think they’re coming in here anytime soon.”
“Eh, Indi will hit a wall soon. He always gets slap happy before he passes out if we stay up this long. The sun’s already out.”
“At least we’ll be up before the noise starts tonight,” I frowned.
“We could possibly leave before then.”
“You do know we have to take them with us, right?” I double-checked.
“Yeah. I’d take Teal too if he wasn’t so busy running in circles, chasing what’s already his if he’d just speak up.”
“Don’t you think we should tell them about the plans? However loose they are.”
“I think they know. I mean, Cobalt and I are on a link and you and Ambry share one as well. So, they should know and neither of them have protested the idea. We just have to decide whether we want to buy an RV or use the tents or rent a cabin. Oooh.. A cabin, right?”
“That’s not really camping,” I scrunched up my nose.
“Do you really want to spend the whole week romping around without running water?” he asked.
“No but… Okay, we can cheat on the camping thing, but you don’t have to buy a whole cabin just for a week.”
“Well, first off, cabins are a reusable resource. Secondly, I wouldn’t buy half a cabin. That sounds like a nightmare and the most important part is unless you are one hundred percent against using something that is owned by my family we have likefive to choose from that are close enough to get to with a few hours of driving. Flying would be quicker but I don’t want to test out if you and Ambry get sky-sick on a journey that long.”
“Me neither. I didn’t even know that was a thing.”
“We had to break up with a set of fox triplets because they kept getting sick on us. That isn’t a deal breaker for us but that was….”
“Yep. You dated them because they had a triplet thing too, didn’t you?”
“Yep,” Cobalt admitted with a nod.
“You’re not going to break up with us because we don’t have a third for Teal, are you?” I narrowed my eyes on him, trying to look playful but his fingers trembled giving away my doubts. “I wish you’d stop doing that.”
“I could say the same to you except part of me thinks you’ll realize the extent of my past and tell me to fuck straight off. I wouldn’t even blame you.”
“What? I should be mad about how much practice you got in? That’s all you were doing,” I laughed and stole a kiss. “Look, I know what people say. I don’t know how much of it is true but I don’t expect everyone to live under a rock like I do. If I had the mental energy to go around fucking around and not worrying about getting pregnant, I’d have done it.”
I blushed at the words as they tumbled off my tongue.
“How do you do that?” I asked him.
“Get you to tell the truth? I don’t. I think you’re burning up inside for conversation. You want to be seen but only when you feel safe. Though, that brings up a good point. Do we need to put off camping until I can get in to get a vasectomy? I mean, they’re not permanent. My last one only lasted about nine months, but nine months gives us time to plan.”
I almost blurted out that he’d do no such thing but stopped myself.
“You’d do that just because I didn’t want to start a family yet?”
“Uh… Yeah. I mean, I did it so I could go on the whole Pheromone Cruise tour without worrying about salting the ocean so to speak. So, why wouldn’t I have a two-minute procedure to keep you from having to have other things to retain your autonomy?”
“Because most guys would rather chop off their own hand than have a scalpel near their nuts.”
“Those guys are cowards. Complete and utter cowards,” he said and smelled like he believed every word he said. “Look, it’s not my idea of a good time but what terrifies me is starting a life inside someone who doesn’t want it there. Even with measures to stop pregnancies that puts that person in a horrible spot. It still happened to them. I mean accidents happen and all of that but that’s where the vasectomy would come in. We forget a condom and they’re all duds.”
I fell quiet for a long moment and almost dozed off. I always wanted kids. I still did. Wolf pups or dragon eggs. It wouldn’t matter. We didn’t have a space for a nesting area in the apartment, though. Did we need the time?
